I have a really quick question and I’m sorry if its already on the website here, I may not be using the right keywords to find it. But
Would I have any issues using a sync 3 apim from a 2019 ford fusion(apim has a 2018 manufacture date) in my 15 ford focus that I upgraded from sync 4 inch to sync 3 with hd radio/sat? My current apim I have apparently was a non-nav unit and this apim from a fusion is a navigation unit. I’ve aquired this apim from a friend and wanted to try using it as it is a nav apim.
The only thing that is making me question if i’d have any issues is because the as-built data on the navigation apim has like one extra block of as built info that the apim in my focus does not have.
SYNC Region: NA
Navigation Variant: Nav
Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20
Install Type: Retrofit
Old SYNC Version: 3.4
New SYNC Version: 3.4
Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
none
Ah I see thanks for that. Other than that I shouldn’t run into any issues?
Does that extra block of info have anything useful in it to change or nah?
I was just wondering about some of this stuff because I was comparing wiring diagrams between the two cars and the fusion didn’t show i-can network like the focus has. I thought that I could use just about any apim but I starting doubting myself. But I’m still new with all of this and trying to learn more about it, just sometimes I can’t find a specific answer or question.
2019 Fusion will be a K series most of the time.
Biggest is with dropping any Sync3 APIM into an older model/year that didn’t have Sync3 as an option is getting the custom config right.
You can’t drop the config from MFT into it, if you’re trying to do the config yourself your best bet is to start with the first year your model had Sync3 available and use an AB that you pull from a used car site.
Well other than block 9 I had as-built config file that had all the configuration blocks 1 thru 8 for my particular setup sync 4inch to sync 3 8 inch with nav, with hd radio/sat radio. I went ahead a put that as built file into the apim for blocks 1-8 and so far it seems to be working. My non nav apim has a date of 2017 and the nav apim has a date of 2018, other than it having a different shell covering the one less usb port I just wanted to ask if there was anything to worry about. But I looked over block 9 that cyan lab founder posted doesn’t seem to have anything important for my setup.
I also would like to update the module to the latest, its on the version before the newest file and slightly older navigation maps.
Decided to run the interrogator to check model and free space.
But I am just going to follow the guides that are posted and the updater has auto selected downgrade as the method. Which All should be good to go correct? Just wanted to update the sync and maps on this apim I got and going over everything before I started the update.
APIM Model: 4U5T-14G371-CDE
APIM Type: Navigation
APIM Size: 32GB
APIM Free Space: 9.2G
Version 3.4.20136 (5U5T-14G381-ED)
That should work.
If the APIM is already on 3.4.x, the first install would be to downgrade the unit to 3.3.
After that on the reboot the reformat will start.
I really appreciate all of the input, update went smooth and got done faster than I thought it would have taken. Got the as-built figured out as well so everything works. Now I can say the old sync 4 inch to sync 3 upgrade complete.
