Sync 3 become black after update

My car screen turned black when trying to downgrade through the app
2022 Ford Explorer

SYNC Region: ROW

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 34.23188

New SYNC Version: 34.21194

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
ONLY BLACK SCREEN

Update Method: CyanLabs Syn3 Updater

Syn3 Updater Version: 2.12.5.0 (STABLE)

Syn3 Updater Documentation Read: no

Syn3 Updater Log File

I DON'T HAVE

It seems you reformatted a MY20 unit, and of course bypassed all the warnings Syn3Updater gave you.

I’m not sure why you didn’t provide a log, but ik also unsure why you did what you did… Or why aren’t you civil and say things like “hello”…

Either way, it’s dead.

Your options are buying a new APIM or trying to revive it by using this tool, which is not for everyone since it requires certain knowledge → GitHub - bigunclemax/sync3flash: Ford Sync 3 reformat flash tool

Sorry for not welcoming me and this was due to my confusion
What I did I think is not a reformat
The device is still working and so is the radio, only the screen is black
Is it really dead!!!

i just use the option to create downgrade USB

and after install on my apim the sound is w

orking but there is no screen

Wait, that’s not a reformat then…
Try a soft reset…
Do you have Forscan and an adapter?.

yes, I have

Ok, then do this:

  • try a soft reset, see if that helps
  • if it does not, perform a module reset for the APIM from Forscan
  • while being in Forscan, grab the module number for the APIM and share it with us
  • share a screenshot of the APIM’s as built values in Forscan

i have this picture before

it works …
by download files from ford website includes license

thank you for fast replay

Awesome that you recovered it…
Can you elaborate on the “files from Ford” part?.
Syn3Updater uses Ford’s files, so I’m not sure what you mean…

This is the file which has all instructions from Ford website
And i follow it to get my screen as before

I think it was a license issue or update issue

Thanks!, but I’m confused…
If your unit is NAV, why were you trying to free some space up by downgrading to 3.3?.
Also, do you have the autoinstall.lst file from the USB that “revived” the unit?.

My issue was at Radio station logo after update I lost it…so I thought if i get back to previous version it will appear again

I think there’s another thing at play here… but I won’t be sure until you share the autoinstall.lst file that “revived” the unit…

License has nothing to do with Sync3 as an operating system on its own, it’s for Maps…
So, if you had a black screen it was not due to anything related to a map license…

What could had happened is that when you went from 3.4 to 3.3, some incompatible asbuilt value prevented 3.3 from showing a picture (a wrong theme, for instance)… And maybe, the USB you used after that fixed that by upgrading to a 3.4 version…

All of this is a guesstimate since:

  • I’ve not seen the autoinstall.lst file
  • I’ve not seen your asbuilt screenshot

Anyways, good thing that you recovered it.

The steps I took are as follows:

Rewrite as built using Forscan
Update APIM using Forscan by selecting update apim module

These steps did not solve the problem and the screen remained black but the radio worked

After that I connected the attached USB autoinstall.lst file and left the car with disappointment

I went at the end of the working day to reset using Forscan or look for another way but I was surprised that the screen returned to work normally

Thank you for the detail…
Well, I’m unsure what happened, since that AUTOINSTALL.LST does not have a Sync3 upgrade, it’s just map related things…

Anyways, glad it’s working now!.
