SYNC 3 install dealer

I purchased the FORD NAVIGATION update map from Ford. The SYNC 3 on my 2018 Mustang said the wrong SYNC 3 was installed and backed out. I had also previously installed SYNC 3 from CYAN LABS. I went to the dealer, and they attempted to load to the latest version of SYNC 3 they had from FORD. After 2 hours they gave up and said my SYNC module was bad. I came home, and downloaded the SYNC 3 from the app, including the map. The Mustang took it. My question is, why would the FORD “stealership” not be able to install SYNC 3, but CYAN LABS USB drive could?

Unless I am missing something your 2018 Ford would have had sync 3.0.20204 or similar originally and you updated through Cyanlabs to 3.4.21265 and then to the latest version 3.4.23188?
Obviously Ford would say the sync module was bad or whatever as your vehicle did not come with sync 3.4 originally from the factory as it didn’t come out until 2020 to my knowledge and dealers cannot upgrade it.
Once you go down the Cyanlabs track with updates you cannot go back to the Ford profile or dealer updating methods anyway and I would think that would apply to maps as well as their maps would be designed for the earlier version 3.0 sync3 in your case.
Your future software and (free) map updates will now need to be done through Cyanlabs as you eventually did in this case.
Pity you cannot get a refund from Ford for their maps.

No. You read it correctly, and verified my thoughts on it. I have done CYAN updates on my SYNC. I guess i will no longer be getting the NAV update from FORD. : ) TY for acknowledging my thoughts.

Wiz043 is right, if you originally upgraded from 3.0 to 3.4 you are outside Ford’s upgrade path now and can’t go back. Also, 3.0 and 3.4 maps are not compatible with each other, so if your subscription is for 3.0 it won’t achieve anything. It’s also worth mentioning that to Ford’s eyes you are still on 3.0.

I have no objection on using the SYNC3 app, also for the maps for updates. But what is it about app update that the FORD factory will not take? I’m one of these guys that wants to understand why and how, things work. I understand that FORD comes out with a new NAV update, so i do i just watch on the APP for new one to install?

Yes…just keep checking from time to time on this site as you will be advised when new sync software and maps become available. Updated maps usually come out early each year but software updates could be any time.

Cyanlabs use Ford software and maps but are not supported by Ford and that is why once you update with Cyanlabs you have to remain with them for future updates as Ford will no longer recognize your new version of Sync3 regardless of your car model.

In your case with your model Ford’s sync updates ceased at 3.0.20204 but Ford still sell updated maps which can be downloaded as long as you haven’t updated software via Cyanlabs to 3.4 or whatever.

Also Cyanlabs is a free software site but accepts donations to keep this site going and there is info re this on their main page.

You don’t appear to have the supporter badge, either you donated a custom amount which doesn’t give you benefits, donated to someone else or there is a bug with our system?

I wouldn’t want you to not get the benefits (ad free, support badge) etc that you deserve, could you confirm some details of that donation so i can investigate if there is a bug?
