Just bought this car. Previous owner just had an issue with the unit and the technician found a U0184 “lost communication with radio” They replaced the ACM “Audio Control Module”. The issue persists that the system is lagging so bad, it is unusable. I was reading about this SYNC 3 update, but noticed all available versions do not seem to contain navigation because they all say “Non Nav APIM”. However the current system has navigation but constantly freezes. I was hesitant to try updating before posting here. Any suggestions before proceeding? Thanks… I was forced to put new sync version but I have not updated yet.
Using the Syn3 Updater, after setting my original SYNC version and selecting the new version, under “Map Version” it shows “Non Nav APIM” on all available versions of the firmware available to download.
You’ve obviously not set the updater correctly, you failed to heed all of the warnings before commiting. Go back and read all the instructions over then start again.
It was made very clear that you had to read documentation before proceeding with the penalty being potential destruction of your vehicle system but i get it it’s our being salty that caused you to miss warnings. Good luck sorting the issue out yourself.
This is not uncommon. Any time the battery runs low or is disconnected this will occur. I would not worry about this.
Just redo your Thumb drive so it has Nav turned on. Of course it will take a bit longer to download and install. About 40 min when I did the last one. A 2016 APIM is an old one so it may be a bit slower but should be fine with the newer software.
As far as Salty, Never good to assume intent when you read things.
Thank you for the helpful post. I was able to update the software with navigation. I had not updated yet because I missed the toggle to add navigation in the Sync3 Updater which prompted my original post. Now I need the updated USB hub but it seems to be working well so far.
Yes, it would be mostly for getting rid of the annoying message. It seems to be working without the constant freezing now. I am just trying to locate the correct hub for the car. Thanks.
Just to add, we don’t tell people to read instructions for the fun of it… There IS a potential risk of bricking if you do not understand what you are doing. we are strict towards people that don’t read instructions but it’s for their own car’s safety!
Everyone is assuming that because I missed the toggle to add navigation that I didn’t read the instructions. That is in fact NOT true… I am well aware that doing the wrong thing or not following the instructions can lead to bricking the system. I am not dumb.
