can i update from my current sync 3 3.0.20204 directly to 3.4.23188 or do i have to do all updates prior to the lates (3.4.23188)
Ensure CP and AA works on your current build, then you can go directly to whatever build you choose.
what does CP and AA mean… my apim is factory installed when purchased car. 2017 explorer. current version is 3.0.20204 with nav…
Android Auto and Car Play
thanks so much both work fine
If you’re on 3.0.20204 the highest build you can go to directly without reformating the APIM is 3.0.23219 .
i have already created a usb using sync3 updater. question is when REFORMATTING is it pretty straight forward or are there problems associated? also will my Nav be affected… would you update using the reformat usb??? thanks in advance or would you leave it alone
Run the interrogator first to verify that you have hardware that can be reformatted.
Reformatting is just like reformatting the hard drive of a PC, Sync 3.0 and the maps get wiped.
Make sure you select the correct region for the vehicle and the correct maps, once you do this you will not be able to get maps directly from Ford’s NAV site as you’ll be on an unsupported build of Sync3.
A post was split to a new topic: Questions about Sync3
Hi Warlock, you seem very knowledgeable so i will ask you this… i am ready to insert the USB into my 2017 explorer with NAV. WILL THE REFORMATTING HAVE ANY NEGATIVE EFFECTS ON MY SIRIUS XM SATELLITE RADIO??? …sHOULD i INSERT THE usb TO START THE REFORMAT RUNNING 3.0.23219 AT PRESENT…Thanks so much in advance…
It will not effect Sirius.
XM will work, that’s part of the ACM you won’t have to re-register or anything like that.
The most common “side effect” on XM of the reformat is that you may get stuck with some of the original logos of the stations. Some people get the new ones back over a few days or a month, others take longer and it can be spotty. You get the new logo for say 10 stations and 1 for some reason stays on the old one, its cosmetic and doesn’t effect the operation of XM.
Just need to follow the rules of doing a reformat.
- Did you run the interrogator to verify that you don’t have a MY2020 APIM, yes the car is a 2017, but if you bought it used after 2019 you really want to check as you don’t know if it was replaced prior to you taking ownership
- Are you using a good quality USB (SanDisk, Lexar, PNY, Kingston, etc)?
- When you set up the updater to create the USB did you set your current version correctly and your target version correctly?
- Did you select the correct maps (NA, EU, etc)?
- Did you remove anything connected to the other USB port? It sounds wrong but we’ve seen where a charging cable that’s not even plugged into a phone cause issues, there needs to be nothing in the port.
Personally when I do this I take the car for a drive rather than let it sit in the driveway, you won’t have a radio while its running (expect it to take 30-50 minutes). Some folks let it idle and check on it every few minutes to keep the idle timer from shutting the car down, others turn on the ignition with a battery charger connected.
Once it finishes and the APIM reboots your NAV will act strange until the car gets turned off, left for say 5 minutes and then restarted.
After the restart, let Sync boot back up fully, you’ll see the NAV load and find where you are on the left side of the screen, after this do a master reset and you’re done.
You will need to pair your phone(s) with the car again and you should be good to go.
you’re the best Warlock, Thanks so much for being so patient with these newbie questions… Anything I can do, all you need to do is ask… enjoy… I’ll let you know how I make out…
Thanks so much for responding…
