Sync Update Carplay Issue

I updated my sync 3 software using ford’s files from 1.0 directly to 3.0. Carplay is not working even after updating. The navigation star also has not changed to an arrow as some have described. How can I fix this? Will going to the newest 3.4 version fix my issue, or do I need to backdate to 2.2 as other’s described?

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 1.0

New SYNC Version: 3.0.23219

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
Intermittent: USB Hubs are not supported. This USB device is not supported.

Update Method: Official Ford

  1. as the error states you can’t use a USB hub, if you’re getting this error with the factory media hub its probably going bad.
  2. Going to 3.4 requires changing the media hub on 2016 Vehicles with a G series hub, a G series hub also is not compatible with CP in 2.2\2.3.
  3. I would go to 2.2 first to get CP working then try 2.3 first before attempting to go to 3.4 because once you go to 3.4 you cannot revert if you still have CP issues.

I should clarify I have already swapped the USB hub with this part number: HU5Z-19A387-C

I also did a master reset of the radio and that cleared all the USB errors. So now my only ongoing issue is that carplay isnt working. No more errors and USB works fine for playing music. Just no carplay and I noticed the navigation icon hasn’t changed. Do I still need to downgrade or can I go to 3.4 to fix my issue?

I understand the process to go straight to 3.4. But what is the full process if I need to go back to 2.2?

To go to 2.2 from 1.0 or 2.3 use the link provided above.
Download the file HN1T-14G381-SA to a USB formatted as exFAT and place it in a directory named SyncMyRide.
Then download the file named autoinstall.lst and place it in the root of the USB drive.
Start the car, pop in the drive, when it says the update is finished pull the USB and then stop the car. Wait about 10 minutes, start the car and do a master reset and when it comes up you should be on 2.2 with working CP.

To clarify, can I go from 3.0 that it says I’m currently on, directly to 2.2? Appreciate all your help.

Correct you can downgrade directly from 3.0.23219 since you did not go to 3.4
After that you can go right back up to 3.0.23219 if you want.

Do I need any sort of “DONTINDEX” file like the original ford download had?

It’s not required
What it basically does is tell the APIM not to do a full directory scan/list on the USB drive before starting the update.
It won’t hurt if you drop it on it, you can use the same DONTINDX.MSA that was in the Ford download if you want

Just setup the USB and I am headed outside to attempt to go back to 2.2. Appreciate the help I will check back in with an update in a bit.

THANK YOU! It worked. 2.2 updated and I can now access carplay. Can I go straight to 3.4 now with the cyan auto updater?

As long as no MY20 hardware is present, yes.

It’s a 2016 and the only thing I have changed is the USB Hub: HU5Z-19A387-C. I should be good to go?

In the context of upgrading from 3.0 to 3.4 (which requires a reformat), relevant MY20 hardware are the APIM and Screen. If the car is from 2016 and the infotainment has never been serviced, you should be ok. Otherwise, check for that with Syn3updater → Basic Usage - CyanLabs
