I formatted my SanDisk 64GB 3.0 thumb drive to Fat32. Created a SyncMyRide folder in root with .lst files of reformat and autoinstall with the following within the folder:
You Mac unfortunately is unpacking the .GZ files. It is likely doing this after it downloads the files automatically. You need to leave the files compressed in .GZ format and move them to the usb.
You must use the reformat tool to upgrade from 2.3.17109.
Okay thank you. The drive is exFAT MBR according to the iOS Disk Utility. So the manual method is impossible from 2.3? I do not have a Windows PC so I guess I will just live with 2.3. Thank you.
That’s simply not what @F150Chief said, he said, quite clearly that your files are being extracted from tar.gz to .tar automatically by Mac OS, prevent this and keep the files as .tar.gz and it will work as intended.
At the end he said I need to use the reformat tool. I have been toying around the idea of installing a windows virtual machine onto my MacBook for awhile now anyways so I downloaded Parallels and then downloaded the Syn3 updater and walked through the process. I successfully created the USB and this morning when taking my kids to school I popped it in and after 35 minutes it completed. Everything is working great. Thank you.
This is a automatic link when ever anyone mentions “reformat” it links to Syn3Updater documentation but you don’t need to use Syn3 Updater but you do need to use the reformat tool.
