Sync Upgrade from 3.4192 to 3.423188 NO GPS

I have seen numerous posts in here with this issue but unable to resolve my issue following them.

I have a 2020 Expedition with an updated Nav system from 4DTech. Everything was operational prior to formatting and updating the maps and Sync version.
After upgrade, everything functioned well, just no GPS signal. I have no reason to believe that there is an antenna failure. There has to be something in the APIM I am missing since this unit was from another vehicle. I have tried going back to the 3.4 192 version and still have no GPS.

I am surprised(not) 4D Tech cannot help you. I would need to see your AB settings to troubleshoot this. I am guessing you paid them a huge amount of money to go from the 4" to an 8" or to add nav? I am sure your Sync upgrades you did are fine from Cyanlabs.

Also did they send you a cheap GPS antenna to use or did you have the Blue connector already there for the back of the APIM?

Yes, it wasnt cheap but has worked for the last 2 years. It wasnt until I recently upgraded the maps and sync revision that is has stopped working. No GPS was sent, just utilized the blue connector already there.

Everything looks good but the one below. They left your Travel Link disabled. Not that you need it but I would write an 8 here.

I wonder if this is an older calibration in an older APIM. This could cause a problem with the newer SYNC versions. Have you done some master resets?

On top of what Bill said about the master reset, have you checked if the unit is getting any signal?. Do not take the on GPS icon as proof, go into the menus and check there. I think you need to go into bezel diagnostics…

We have run into this a few times where people use CYANLABS or something similar and lost GPS signal. We have been unable to resolve that issue when it happened. Sorry we could not be of more help.

I have done multiple master resets. Even grabbed the as built APIM from another vehicle that is like this one and it didn’t resolve the issues.

I’m sorry but this is bullshit, we use official ford software. The files are signed and only ford software can be installed and 4dtech know this or atleast should, since they claim to be experts with sunc.

The issue is their shitty antennas and always will be.

Yes, mine is completely black. Not sure how or why there would be no signal when it worked prior to the update…?

Agreed, I expected them to be more willing to cooperate. The software update worked fine, just no GPS signal now. The only part I dont agree with is the antenna… I am using the ford antenna that came factory with the vehicle so it isn’t the antenna that they sent

I’m confused your 2020 car didn’t come with SYNC 3 originally?

Please check the diagnostics as mentioned above.

No, it did not. It is a SSV model that came with the smaller screen. I bought the upgrade from 4DTech and installed it myself. It has been a little sluggish and I wanted to do a clean instal and map update and after doing so, no GPS signal.

Well knowing it’s an SSV now that could mean that there is wire damage somewhere. Unlikely but possible.

Here is what I would do. Double check all the antenna connections. Buy a cheap antenna off Amazon or Ebay and see if you get a signal with that. Unless 4Dcrap sent you one that you did not use and might still have.

If you get a signal than you know the problem is in the OEM antenna or wiring. If you don’t get a signal than you know the problem is with the APIM.

You AB settings looked fine other than they did not turn on Travel Link. Here is a diagram of the Infotainment system showing the antenna info if it helps…

Thanks, we have not added any electronics or lights to the vehicle otherwise I would agree.

I have pulled the screen and APIM and all connections look good. I have ordered an antenna off amazon to give that a shot.

I am pretty sure that it is an APIM issue that I am going to have to find. I cant revert to the AB for the vehicle since i did the APIM upgrade.

Yea the old AB would cause more problems, LOL.

Curious what the antenna does when you get it. The OEM roof antenna is a B to get to should you have to replace that.

Curious if you got a pic of the back of the APIM when you had it out?
