My car is a 2015 C-Max energi SEL with nav. I recently put in a screen and apim from a 2018 fusion energy SE with no nav to upgrade to sync 3 (version 2.3) My question is should I upload the as-built apim file from my 2015 or should I use a donor 2017 Vin with matching trim and no nav. Or is there another solution I am not thinking of? Thanks, newbie here.

You cannot use the AB from a non-Sync3 APIM on a Sync3 APIM.
You should be using a first year (your model, first year Sync3 was offered on it) donor VIN AB that’s close to your trim/option level

Fusion didn’t come with Sync3 until 2017, its a different logic than the CMax.
CMax is closer to an Escape or Focus.
