Sync3 freezes! Non stop!

Hi everyone. I apologize if this was discussed. I have sync 3.0. Which recently started complaining about navigation failing and little later started freezing making it basically unresponsive. Starts with black screen for 10-15 minutes. Every tap I try to make has delay 1-2 minutes. Will updating help? If not what would you recommend? the rear view camera enables immediately and works without lagging, however, when I put it in drive the camera will remain ON on screen for a while like 10 minutes. Thank you a lot and I apologize for disturbing.

P.S. Tried updating to 3.4 getting inst Err12 error. Tried clearing RW with created RW clean USB. Getting same Err12. What else I can try? Guys, please help :folded_hands:

Hello.
Have you tried performing a master reset?.
From what you are describing, that sounds like a dying APIM.

Hello, thank you for your response. Yes, I did master resets, soft resets. Unfortunately does not help… Just want to make sure that I tried everything

What happens when you perform a master reset?, does it complete and reboot the APIM?. Does it actually erase anything?

Yes, it reboots. Does erase all my FordPass application access. However, it keeps being super laggy. Freezes nonstop… I do not know if it erases anything else besides FordPass access

If other settings are also erased after a master reset, we can assume it’s doing its job.
Now, we go back to the “hardware issue” idea. If the unit can’t process any package (interrogator log, for instance) and gives the ERR12 message, then I think it’s time to look for a replacement.

Could you please suggest a reliable one for replacement? Besides dealership?

Mmm… Since you are NA based, consider contacting Naviupgrade, he’s also a forum member…

Hardware failure message. You need a new APIM.

2018 Expedition would have been equipped from the factory with a J series APIM. Meaning the part number would start with J, indicating the 2018 model year. You could also use a K series with no issues. However, the asbuilt programming will likely need to be adjusted either way, so look for a J or K series from an Expedition. If you can’t find one, we can help with the programming.

I have a K series I put in my 2018 Expedition. Very happy I did as it works even better.
