Hi guys.
I live in Poland and i have 2019 Ford Edge from USA.
I have replaced the TCU (KT1T-14G089-FK) with an used one - KT1T-14G087-EN (pulled from 2020 Transit form UK).
At first I left the Asbuilt values as they came, just modified “diesel” to “petrol” and set country code to Poland. After I activated Fordpass I noticed it doesn’t show my car location.
Then I used my original Asbuilt, just modified NA region to EU and country code, went through factory mode and activated again. Still no location.
My Ford Edge is non-nav. Can anyone confirm that TCU modules have their own GPS chip and use the shark fin antenna for location tracking?
My another thought is that i have to upgrade the TCU firmware to get it working.
My old module was:
Hello there, it’s a matter of the correct config. Do you have the location sharing switchers turned on? I’m attaching my own config which used to work just fine for my Fusiong PHEV 2016 with the same TCU. jx7t-latest-normal-work.abt (1.6 KB)
There is a GPS antenna connected to APIM module regardless of config (nav or non nav). I checked the hidden Sync 3 menu (bezel diagnostics) and it was showing GPS position and signals, etc.
There is a known bug since Sync 3.4 22110 that affects only non nav vehicles. This update breaks down the compass and also TCU localization. This bug is still not fixed yet…
Today I did a downgrade to version 3.4 22048 and it worked!
I have working localization in my FordPass apps, and my compass is working too.
That’s a nice find, thank you for sharing it with us.
About point 1 yes, all APIMs do have some kind of GPS capability regardless if they are NAV or no-NAV…
About point 2 that’s also correct and was documented in the build’s thread → Sync 3.4.22110 & 2021 Maps - Feedback & Issues
And yes, they never fixed it…
Anyways, I’ve marked this thread as solved since downgrading to a previous build worked. Should you face any issues with 3.4.22048, consider going back to 3.4.21256 which is a bit older but proved to be really stable.
