SInce you are using an apple device and assuming you are using a quality original cable for the device, I think you will need to change the USB HUBs, since your model is from 2016.
Don’t you get a message that says that HUBs are not supported?.
Do you have an Android device to test it?.
Older HW may present this issue where Apple Car Play won’t work, but Android Auto does.
If so, the solution is to get a newer usb hub.
