Hi guys, I am trying to update my Sync 3 to the latest version, but it has not been done in a very long time, and I’m struggling and could use some assistance. The version that is currently installed is 2.0.16074, and the Ford website says I can update to 3.0.23219. I have downloaded the package from Ford, followed their instructions to put it on a USB stick, and had it saying it was updating for over an hour with no luck.
I read that Cyanlabs was a way forward, so have downloaded the software to make a USB stick to do it, but my old version isn’t shown as an option, so have got stuck at that point.
Any ideas on how I can update it, it works like a piece of garbage at the minute, I have to reset it 2 or 3 times a journey, which is pretty annoying!
SYNC Region: EU
Navigation Variant: Nav
Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20
Install Type: OEM
Old SYNC Version: 2.0.16074
New SYNC Version: 3.0.23219
Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
No error messages, just doesn’t update
Thanks for coming back to me, my end goal is to have a more up to date unit, it doesn’t need to be the latest, I’m hoping that updating it will stop it randomly not seeing my iphone, or losing DAB radio.
I didn’t know I could type my number in, I will go ahead and try that.
Update, I followed some tips from this forum, and was able to update from the old version I had to 3.0.23219.
I reformatted the USB to FAT32 rather than exfat as Ford had recommended, and did a master reset before I started. I then plugged it in when I had a long drive, and it updated in about 40 minutes.
Initially, it was great, it was all working like new and I was happy with it. However, later in the day it went back to working badly, in fact worse than before. The on-screen buttons are very laggy, and if I get a call, it doesn’t stop the radio.
Any idea if updating to a newer version would be any help, or is it the unit itself that is in need of replacement?
There is no guarantee that upgrading to 3.4 will change that behavior. I almost suspect your APIM may be going bad, and depending on what the peoblem is, upgrading it to 3.4 may do it in.
On the other hand, if this is caused by bad memory blocks on your emmc then a reformat which is required for the upgrade could help for a while until the emmc acquires more bad blocks.
I followed the instructions on the link you put, and the issues I was having are pretty much gone, there’s now no lag, and I don’t have to restart it to get my phone to work!
Here’s the interrogator log following the latest updates, could you have a quick look sometime for me?
Yes, I followed that guide to the letter, it is occasionally throwing up a message saying it’s still installing, even though no USB stick is plugged in. When I look at the “about sync” page within the settings, it says the map version is F11, but it doesn’t have version info about Gracenote, so I think that bit failed somehow.
I’m a little tempted to install the F14 map pack tbh
Then there’s something that’s not correctly installed. I would advise to install all the latest packages. If you are upgrading there’s no reason for not going to the latest packages.
