Update from 3.0.23219 to 3.4 with apim: HS7T

Hello, I have a ford focus late 2016 (but it’s already called Ford focus 2017) with SYNC 3 updated to 3.0.23219.
I would like to update manually to the latest version 3.4.
My purpose is to improve the speed and stability because using android auto with Waze and Amazon music I see that the sync sometimes reboot itself.
I see my apim starts with: HS7T

My question is: is my car compatible with 3.4?
Or can I have some issues?
And with the 3.4 would I get performance improvements with my hardware?

Thank you.

SYNC Region: EU

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 3.0.23219

New SYNC Version: 3.4

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
Not yet

Update Method: Official Ford

G/H are a bit more problematic going to 3.4.x

The fact that the APIM reboots at random would lead me to believe you have a bad APIM and going to 3.4.x won’t fix that.

Thank you for the answer.

At this point I think I won’t update for now.

I will try to reformat the smartphone and try different settings to see if I solve this issue.

Have you tried a master reset on the APIM?

If you mean the reset from the menu (settings), yes I already did it.

Honestly if your APIM is not broken you can safely upgrade to 3.4. I have APIM HP5T-14G371-CCA and I am on sync 3.4 with 0 problems. I did reformat of course and currently running 3.4.22110 and F13 maps with 0 problems

Please help me figure this out, I’ve tried everything!

7D0-01-01 so in your case with your hardware and the version 3.4, did you notice performance improvements?

Yes, 0 performance problems. Navigation works perfectly, sync 3.4 is faster than 3.0. Everything is good the only thing I don’t have is Calm Screen option because I think I need to upgrade my firmware but there’s a risk of bricking the system and I think it’s not worth flashing it just to get 1 small feature

What’s the problem? You’re struggling to upgrade to 3.4?

I’m just scared to brick the APIM because I have to update manually. And I saw with the cyanlabs software that I can’t to create a backup pendrive with my version 3.0.23219, because I think it is too old. I saw that It is not available.

Honestly cyanlabs update won’t really brick your APIM. HS7T is a fairly strong apim. Just updating from 3.0 to 3.4 will be fine. Flashing firmware is the scary thing and you don’t need to flash/upgrade firmware because upgrading to 3.4 will give you access to 99% of sync 3.4 features.

By the way, your car was made in EU? If so then your apim should be 64gb and you won’t have a memory problem.

Just follow the exact steps when upgrading

My car was made in Germany and sold in Italy so yes Europe

Run the Interrogator Utility to determine if the unit is MY20+. Post the XML here…you could have other issues that the utility might point out.

yeah please run interrogation and post the file here

I tried to check manually and this is the message.

I don’t know if is correct I didn’t see any XML file.

I understood how to do it. In your opinion can I upgrade?

Bro your APIM won’t get bricked as long as you follow the CyanLabs Sync 3.4 upgrade steps. Only flashing apim with forscan might brick it and for now you don’t need to. Simple upgrade using Syn3 Updater will be good for you.

This is what my apim was before I updated to sync 3.4:
APIM Model: HP5T-14G371-CCA
APIM Type: Navigation
APIM Size: 32GB
APIM Free Space: 5.3G
Version 3.0.23219 (JR3T-14G381-AY)

Your apim even has newer firmware calibration and more memory than mine. You will be fine!

lastly please when updating with reformat to sync 3.4 DO NOT REMOVE YOUR USB when apim shows message “Update complete remove usb” while you’re still on sync 3.0 Only remove usb after formatting is done and you message “update successful please remove usb” on a green screen.

EU full maps are big and can take you 2-3 hours to upgrade so you keep your car idling for the whole process or to save fuel you can do it with just ignition on but only you have a very good battery charger.
After upgrade always do master reset.
If you have any problem feel free to write in this thread. Good luck

HS7T-14G371-FAD is NOT MY20+. You can reformat the unit to Sync 3.4 and F13 maps.
