Update from Sync 3.0 to 3.4

2016 Ford Mustang Premium

Updated Sync 3.0 to 3.4 with update installer. Everything went well and updated to version 3.4. However, I didn’t selected to update maps. I assumed incorrectly that it would just keep old maps. I now get an error message every time I start my car that maps are not loaded and that USB Hub is not working. I do use android auto for navigation and it works just fine along with all the other features of android auto. These error messages are more of a nuance than anything. I did re-download and try to install the new version of sync with maps and it gives me and error message “install failed Error Code: PKG_ERR04”.

How have you only installed VOICE_NAV but no MAPS?

I believe when you made the upgrade from 3.0, newer versions past that throw up the error about the USB hub and being a 2016 vehicle, this makes sense. You’ll need to update the hub to a newer model to remove the message. Android Auto will continue to work fine with the old one, you’ll just continue to get the nag message. CarPlay requires a new hub though. These run about $50 or so. I don’t have the part numbers off the top of my head though.

Like @Vchat20 said, this is the reason for the USB hub, however for the MAPS you need to do the following

Since you have somehow installed without MAPS what I would suggest you do is this

Set your Syn3 Updater to be like this

And then on the main screen do this

(you don’t have to use 21265 but it’s the newest so i would recommend it)

If you have set the settings correctly it should show as Install Mode Downgrade, Forced No and My20 Protection Disabled.

Once that has done the whole process, insert the USB and it will reformat the entire unit this time with maps (again not sure why you didn’t have maps before hand)
