Updating APIM Firmware (Calibration Files)

My screen is black & USB has no response

Did you run an update using reformat mode on the unit?

Sounds like you tried to reformat a MY20+ vehicle. You will likely have to get the unit replaced.

I want to try but I don’t know how to do it…

oh… so bad…

You don’t want to…

How did the APIM get in this condition? What happened? This is the exact symptoms of the reformat tool being used on MY20+ APIM’s. If you cannot tell us what happened we can’t be of help.

I first made a mandatory USB upgrade system
Less than half of the time, all black screens & usb no response

Sorry, but I think a Ford service center visit is in your future.

HI, F150Chief,

Maybe you can shed some wisdom here:

I seemed to have bricked my APIM.

I suspect I do not have the latest forscan test version that will allow correct programming…

I see forums where folks are using: v2.4.3 20210603 version

I was using older FORScanSetup2.4.3.test20200920
I also see post where using 2.4.0 test might help but cannot find that…

I also tried the ASBUILT versions of the files and get the same error.
tried deleting profile, using custom, loading all the original files, same error

this is a 2016 F150 G version APIM, with the latest 3.4 updates.
I have tried the GB5T-14G375-DA also.
same error every time.

Thanks!

Start from here:

Updating APIM Firmware (Calibration Files) - Ford / Sync 3 - CyanLabs Official Community

Use the ‘Recovery Mode’ as suggested.

We can try to update the unit to late 2016 specs, using these 2 files. If it works, it can stay there. (The DA file is the same as above.) Power reset then go thru that with both files.

Forscan sent me this also:

Anyway, the problem is not in FORScan but in Ford firmware file GB5T-14G374-AF that contains wrong addresses. Please try to replace it in CalibrationFiles with this file:

https://forscan.org/download/fw/GB5T-14G374-AF_fsmod.ZIP

Download, unzip, rename to GB5T-14G374-AF_fsmod.VBF to GB5T-14G374-AF.VBF. Other 3 files remain the same. Then try to program again.

Yes you use outdated version, but if you replace it with latest one, you may lose your car’s profile together with bricked APIM info, so you will not have programming function anymore. So we suggest to try to recover it with your current version, then install latest one.

https://forscan.org/download/FORScanSetup2.4.3.test20210614.exe

I used the Forscan provided AF and your CB and DA files and it popped right up!

After firmware update and update of software I see this, but its seems to be working , I do see Calm screen option in Forscan, download is not responsive.

Good to see you recovered the unit.

Calm screen will likely not work with those files, however you have a G version APIM, so most likely will not work anyways. Upgrading the firmware on G series APIM’s is risky at best, as the unit is Gen 1 Sync 3 and does not have the faster processors, etc. It’s best to just leave it as is.

Hi every body.

i have upgraded my 2013 ford kuga from sync 1 to sync 3.
To fix park assist issues, i upgrade PAM and APIM modules firmware successfully.

Since the apim upgrade, i lost steering wheel commands for volume and voice command.

Did you kown how can i recover steering wheel commands ??

Thank’s in advance !
Bye

Could you post your APIM asbuilt? Most likely 7D0-01-01 xx** xxxx xxxx.

Hi.
I have 7d01-01 : 0968-6502-9041
I have test with xx21-xxxx-xxxx but that doesn’t work

7D0-01-01 xx21 xxxx xxxx requires an SCCM module, which you would not have.
Try these:
22=EP On, EPT 30mins, CM APIM (NA Market CGEA 1.2), MC Disabled, SWC SWMT
23=EP On, EPT 30mins, CM APIM (NA Market CGEA 1.2), MC Disabled, SWC SWFC

I am curious, where did you get the APIM coding for the 2013 Kuga?
You show 68 at this location, so 69 would not work, but 6A or 6B might. These are for C1MCA platform cars. The settings above (22.23) are for CGEA 1.2 platform cars.

Here is a spreadsheet with all the values.
APIM As Built Database ralliartevo6.xlsx (55.8 KB)

Thank you.
This is the config from another French kuga. But it’s possible that forscan change some values after tests ….
I think I already have this value before apim module firmware upgrade and APIM in v3.0. And steering wheel command works.

I will test your values.
What is difference between cgea and c1mca.
I have a European kuga and European sync 3.

I just tried and failed to upgrade the APIM firmware (2018 Ford Focus RS - US model), and now have a black screen. Below are the various things I’ve attempted to do. Is there anything else I should try before declaring the APIM bricked and replacing it?

I had previously successfully upgraded from Sync 3.0 to 3.4.21098 with 2.20 Maps - NA

For the initial programming attempt, checked Force program unchanged firmware and Stop activity on buses. Initial Test Run SBL appeared successful. Program! resulted in black screen.

Attempts to fix:

  1. Tried another pass both with and without recovery mode.
  2. Removed power by disconnecting car battery for 5 minutes.
  3. Tried to program just three files GB5T-14G376-AA.VBF, GB5T-14G375-CA.VBF and
    GB5T-14G374- CB.VBF in recovery mode

Below is screenshot just before initial programming:

And here is what I get now repeatedly after each attempt. As noted in the log, the current details are from memory, as FORScan cannot read the APIM info:

Attached is the log from the most recent attempt.

Log Recovery Failure 2021.06.23a.txt (3.4 KB)

I also note that I am getting an ACM DTC read error. Could this be related?
