Updating APIM Firmware (Calibration Files)

Did that just start on itself or did you do an update? Do you have a pic? Year and Model car?

There is a slight screen flicker period when adjusting to different ambient light conditions. This started after I used the FordSyncDownloader to update my Sync3 software from version 3.0 Build 19205 to 3.4 Build 20136. 2017 Ford Escape.

If you have not done so, perform a Master Reset. Are you familiar with FORScan?

Already done a master reset. Haven’t used forscan before. Just know about it from this site.

Found this: I have not tried this…

Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) Screen Flicker – 2016-2019 Ford Escape, 2016-2018 Focus/C-Max oemdtc May 13, 2019 1 Comment

Summary

Some 2016-2019 Escape and 2016-2018 Focus/C-Max vehicles may exhibit a customer perceived concern of a FDIM screen flicker during transitions between day/night mode and/or during auto headlamp on/off. The FDIM utilizes a ramp up and ramp down strategy of controlling the back lighting when the display setting is in auto dimming mode. This is a normal condition that does not affect the function or durability of the FDIM. Auto dimming mode can be turned off to minimize the ramp up and ramp down lighting strategy. To turn off the auto dimming mode feature in the FDIM display: select> FDIM settings> Display settings> Auto Dim selection. Do not confuse the auto dimming mode selection with the selection for auto day/night operation. Turning off auto dimming mode only effects the back lighting strategy and does not affect any other function or FDIM reliability.

This is a known issue with the Focus mk3 and Kuga, it is due to incompatibility with 3.4 and the older format that these vehicles use to communicate illumination data. We’ve worked on this for many months and there is no resolution.

The only workaround is to downgrade to 19101, and disable autodim. This option is disabled in all newer versions beyond 19101.

Is it reasonable to conclude that, if you attempt to download new firmware when connected to the APIM via Forscan and no files are downloaded after some time, that there is no later firmware available ? Or, does the download just take a long time to execute ?

on Forscan forum there is similar thread…it seems that new version of Forscan is having a bug…and do not recognise the specific APIM model, thus no firmware is available… they are working on this

This thread: APIM fw upgrade - Smax MY2018 - FORScan forum

It appears the user has not input or downloaded any files to upgrade with. The fields are blank. In version 2.4.0, you had to populate the fields with the updated versions of the firmware and have those downloaded to you computer.

Please review the APIM Firmware update guide: Updating APIM Firmware (Calibration Files)

ok, thanks - that clarify a lot:) but I still have questions:)
I have a paid extended version for Forscan (1 year).
I open Forscan - go to APIM firmware update and then what is opening - is bracket with the current version, and in ā€œto programā€ there is just information ā€œavailableā€ - but all other fields have red colour without any data provided…
what should I do next? click on download - or look for the files somewhere else?

You need the files that you wish to program.

ForScan will not populate that for you.

I do think that the 2.4.1 beta does have some issues when it comes to firmware upgrades. I have also noticed that it is incapable of loading a firmware list from the servers for a module that you have already updated to the latest firmware. I have also noticed that if you select the manual mode and try to provide your own firmware files the ā€œā€¦ā€ button appears to be broken as when I click it I get no file prompt.

A while ago ucdsys.ru closed the file download feature so that FORScan 2.4.0 could no longer automatically download firmware files through the app. This is not new that 2.4.1 has the same issue. You can try the Ford service site:
https://www.fordtechservice.dealerconnection.com/vdirs/wds/PCMReprogram/DSFM_PCMReprogram.asp?swproduct=IDS

I have not seen the button issue but I will be working with the app this weekend so I’ll pay attention to that. You can report these issues directly to the developers at [email protected].

It’s a bit weird, FORScan does allows me to view and download firmware for modules if I have not already updated them. However it seems the issue of it not showing firmware for download only occurs after I’ve updated the module. Ideally, I’d expect to be able to view the list of available configurations and revert to an older one if I wanted to.

So why there is the comment above if Forscan is not able to download firmware files?

Because it was able to download the files itself in 2.4.0, I would suggest directing support queries to forscan, though as mentioned above and on their forums this has been widely reported as an issue already.

Hi.
So I got my APIM FW updated with the new Forscan 2.4.1, and coded the DAB logos and calm screen.

But logos are missing. Radiotext is in center and calm screen working. Its like they are not in the software. I have the 19200 installed.

Anyone alese had this issue? How to solve?

@Rene_Bo Maybe you installed 3.4 but without radio logos package?
Which adapter did You use to update APIM? How long it took?

if there are any files you need let me know and i’ll download them via UCDS

There is an asbuilt update that may be needed to turn on radio logos, it is in the guide. Please also make sure to master reset after the firmware update.
