Updating Sync 3 from 3.0.23219 to Sync 3.4 Ford Focus

Hi, I recently updated my car’s original Sync 3 version from 2.3.17109 to the official 3.0.23219 update. The system works better now and the design has changed slightly.
My next goal is to upgrade to Sync 3.4, but I’d like some advice from you guys. Based on what was mentioned in my previous post and what I’ve found online, some Sync 3.4 builds may cause issues with the auto-dimming feature. Some users have reported that the screen “flickers” when switching between day and night mode.

That said, my question is: is version 3.4.23188 the best option for my car to mitigate this potential issue, or should I go with 3.4.21265, which some people say is the most stable version for the Focus?

My APIM part number is: JL7T-14G371-DCC (Ford Focus late 2018 with park assist - Argentina).

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello.

Yes, your screen will flicker regardless of which build you choose since it’s a known compatibility issue they didn’t fix between Sync3 3.4 and Focus and Kuga.

There’s no solution, only a workaround: installing a very old 3.4.19-something build which was the last build to have the “auto-brightness” toggle accesible by the user, so that it could be disabled.

By disabling auto-brightness the screen won’t adjust its brightness anymore and will stay at a fixed level, hence no flickering.

I also have a Focus, that’s one of the reasons I won’t upgrade to 3.4.

The flickering really is easy to ignore.

It sure is…to my knowledge it only occurs when the technology is trying to decide between night and day time light and the flickering is normally brief, in my case anyway…3.4.23188.

It may also go into night mode in a tunnel and come back into day mode on exit, not really a system fault.
