I have a 2019 Ford Focus with factory navigation and the following configuration:
APIM: 4U5T-14G371-GJA (64 GB, pre-MY20)
SYNC: 3.4.23188
Current maps: F8
Free APIM space: approximately 13 GB
Syn3 Updater: 2.14.2.0 Stable
I want to update to F13 (2024) maps, using only the UK/Northern Europe region, while retaining British English spoken navigation.
The CyanLabs Cut Down Map Package Generator shows 7.17 GB of files and an estimated required space of 12.26 GB when I select the UK/Northern Europe maps and the voice package containing British English.
Can I safely install this package using Autoinstall without Reformat? Will it replace the existing F8 maps and voice files, and is 13 GB of reported free space sufficient?
Alternatively, can I update just the map region and retain my existing British English navigation voice files without compatibility problems?
I’d prefer the least risky procedure, even if it leaves unused European map files installed.
Hi only because I have read that the F8 to F13 map update is very big and will take up to 2 hours. My understanding is you cannot break this update across car journeys without risking corruption, so I would need to do a non-stop 2 hour drive to complete it which I do not plan to do. So the option of cut down UK-only map update was to reduce the time from 2 hours to around 15 minutes. If what I have read is incorrect and I can do the long update across several car drives that would be great, but my understanding is if you break the update before completion, you have to start over again from the beginning ?
(By the way I will never drive in Europe only ever UK, so I don’t actually need the full Europe maps to be updated)
One specific question related to my post above: Does the generator’s “Estimated required space: 12.26 GB” already include sufficient headroom for Autoinstall on the APIM, and is my reported 13 GB free space therefore adequate and safe to proceed ? Thanks.
No need to double post, there’s an edit button for a reason. I’ve merged your messages.
Up to 3 hours if you need to autoinstall them, yes. But your APIM is not MY20, you can reformat it and do it in about 45-60 minutes.
Not true, you could autoinstall files in smaller chunks. Normally they are installed in 3 sections, you could manually set up 6 sections… But if you can reformat the unit, it’s recommended to do that since it’s a lot faster.
Not true either, it will take longer than 15 minutes and you will leave the unit with a mixture of map versions, which is not good.
I believe so, yeah, but do not quote me on that.
Honestly, I’m not sure. I remember some users said they “just left” the USB there for multiple drives and eventually the process completed…
But again, if your APIM is not MY20 and you can reformat it, go with that…
