Upgraded ECM from Pre X-40 to X-40 on my Sync3. No Sound with B&O system

So I have a 2019 F350 Platinum with the B&O sound system. I want to upgrade my original ACM part # KC3T-18D818-CA to a newer model number that supports mix mode presets. So i purchased an ACM from a 2020 ford edge part # LT4T-18D818-CC. The problem is that I have no sound output. I added the two wires ACM Pin 4 - APIM Pin 28 ; ACM Pin 5 - APIM Pin 27. I updated the AB files in both the ACM and APIM and nothing. No sound. Does it have something to do with the B&O system? The new ACM has a A2B blue connector on the back panel, but I have nothing to connect that to on my truck. The APIM in my truck is part # JC3T-14G370-ACE
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

The APIM needs to be a K-series (2019) or newer. The JC3T-14G370-ACE APIM will not support the additional wiring. And the KC3T-18D818-CA ACM does not support the B&O audio system. So you probably don’t have that in the truck?

Do you have the B&O logo on the dash center speaker?

Very odd this does not have the A2B connection in it. Every B&O system I have seen has the A2B.

Absolutely.

Yes, on the center speaker cover of the dash is has the BO logo right in the front. My truck has the HD radio, Sirius XM. My VIN is 1FT8W3BT5KEC32416. I have pictures of my ACM and the speaker cover, but I don’t know how to upload images on this forum.

The window sticker says it has B&O Play Premium Audio

Drag the pic into the chat box when you reply. Wait for it to finish uploading before you select reply

Check your VIN, Ford shows that as invalid.

Sorry about that, it is 1FT8W3BT5KEC32416

Well I guess there is a 1st time for everything. This truck is a 2019 year model, but has components built in Aug 2018. It has the B&O audio system, but does not have the blue A2B connector on the back side of the ACM. So if it doesn’t have that connector, then how does it communicate with the B&O Amp?

The original APIM will not work with the new ACM, LT4T-18D818-CC. Firmware is Pre-MY18.5 as is the hardware. You would need to replace the Apim with a 2019 model.

The ACM is not equipped with A2B, but maybe wired other?

Does the B&O DSP have the A2B connector?

I’m looking for alternate wiring for the system…

OK, so the ACM asbuilt indicates that A2B is disabled, which would be correct as there is no A2B connection. Otherwise it is quite normal.

727-01-02 0000 0000 0031

727-02-01 2E5F
727-03-01 285A
727-04-01 0001 0155 53DD

This is normal for parts to be from the prior year on early models.

B&O was available starting in 2018 but they were all A2B and it’s really only the DSP that is B&O. The ACM does not have to much to do with it other than the wiring configurations.

I see now it is B&O Play. It’s a cut down version of a B&O system.

where is the DSP located at? I looked behind the dash and could not see anything other than my 360 camera control module.

Typically on the back wall behind the 2nd row seat.

F350 behind rear seat driver’s side.

Here are some pics of what is behind my seat. I think this is the AMP for my radio. There is a green plug that goes into the speaker sub box. I don’t see anything that looks like an A2B connector.

Interesting, It uses the same plugs as the Sony amp but the pins are not the same. The bracket even has the holes for the Sony amp also.

This tells me for sure you need an ACM without A2B.

@F150Chief 19 F350’s are CEGA 1.3 right? If it is still 1.2 this could be why.

So the whole reason why I was trying to upgrade to a newer ACM was to get mix mode presets, and keep SAT radio and HD radio functions. With this new information about my weird B&O system not having an A2B connector, is this no longer an option for me?

Not necessarily. The Ranger and Maverick have newer ACM’s that do not use A2B.

F150Chief said that I would need to have an APIM that was a 2019 build date or newer, so it looks like for me, even if I could find an ACM with no A2B, I would still need to upgrade my APIM also. This is a lot to do for only gaining mix mode presets. :frowning:

I have some ideas and possible solutions. Let me do some research…

It seems there are several versions of the B&O audio systems for different vehicle models. Not all use the A2B connections, rather are hardwired like the previous Sony system. Superduty trucks are hardwired rather than employing A2B.

In summary, you have a couple of options, but first..the ACM you have now, the LT4T unit, is not compatible for your F-350 original equipment, so that needs to be put aside for now. We’ll get there.

I’ll list these as options:

Option 1 - Remove the LT4T ACM and return to the original unit. The reasoning for this is that the LT4T ACM will not work with either the original APIM or B&O DSP, they are not compatible.

Option 2 - Using the LT4T ACM, replace the APIM and B&O DSP. Using the LT4T ACM, replace the B&O DSP with the ‘premium’ version with the A2B connection and reprogram the ACM and DSP to use A2B. This may require rewiring of the existing speakers and reprogramming the DSP to not look for open speaker outputs. Although possible, I have not seen this done so it will require researching all of the connections. This will require the APIM to be replaced with a K-series to support mixed mode presets and SiriusXM X40 thru the LT4T ACM to utilize the A2B connection.

Option 3 - Remove the LT4T ACM and replaced it with a KL3T ACM with a K-series APIM. There are K-series ACM’s available that will wire to the B&O DSP just like the Sony system. (Some wiring may need to be adjusted.) The K-series APIM is required to support SiriusM X40 as mentioned above. This option will not support mixed mode presets.

Option 4 - Remove the LT4T ACM and return to the original unit, the KC3T-18D818-CA, and replace the APIM with a K-Series as above. This is probably the best functional option as it retains all of the OEM wiring and equipment except for the APIM. However, this ACM does not support SiriusXM (or X40). I tried researching this, but the KC3T-18D818-CA ACM might have the ability to do mixed mode presets, since it is a 18D818 version. (This ACM should be equipped with HDR and Sirius XM, indicated on the window sticker).

A couple of notes about functionality; mixed mode presets are not possible unless using the LT4T ACM with a K-series APIM. (Or newer). Other than option 1, only option 4 would be truly compatible with your vehicle without making it a science project.

Equipment selection for the ACM will depend on the desired features like SiriusXM, X40, mixed mode presets, etc.
