SiriusXM X40 Upgrade with X40 Capable ACM in Sync 3 Equipped North America Ford/Lincoln vehicles.

Read this document fully before starting any actions. It is your responsibility to follow the instructions as outlined below.

NOTES:

  • This document is written specifically for most 2015 through 2020 Sync 3 equipped NA Ford and Lincoln models that utilize CGEA 1.3 vehicle architecture. This document outlines the hardware and programming needed for a typical installation and does not account for all possibilities or combinations of equipment.
  • This document does not include the installation of the APIM or ACM as this will vary among vehicle models and year of production.
  • You will need to contact SiriusXM to transfer your SiriusXM subscription to the new ACM. Be aware there is a charge to change radios on your SiriusXM account.
  • Use FORScan (or other capable applications) to update the firmware on the APIM and/or ACM if necessary. You will need FORScan 2.4.x and a paid license to update the firmware with the FORScan application.
  • Firmware Updates May Be Required:
    • Use FORScan (or other capable applications) to update the firmware on the APIM if necessary. You will need FORScan 2.4.x and a paid license to update the firmware with the FORScan application.
    • You must use an approved USB OBDII adapter as recommended by FORScan.
    • DO NOT use a Bluetooth adapter to program firmware.
    • The firmware updates may take some time and require vehicle power to remain on and stable.
    • The use of a battery charger capable of at least 10 Amps continuous is recommended.

Key Requirements:

  • NA CGEA 1.3 vehicle.
  • K*** series or above APIM with or without NAV recommended.
  • APIM hardware GU5T-14G380-ED or 1U5T-14G380-EE or later.
  • APIM Strategy firmware must be 1U5T-14G374-D* or -E*.

ACM Hardware:

  • ACM must be late 2019 or 2020+ and must have SDARS X40 capability with newer chipsets.
  • If ACM is 2020+ it is recommended that it have old style connectors for ease of installation. If you use an ACM with the newer connectors then you will need to rewire to accommodate these. You will need to source connectors and diagrams for your vehicle.

Wiring Requirements:

  • The required control wiring for the Satellite Data Link and Digital Radio Data Link (SDL/DRDL) must be in place between the APIM and ACM. 2019 and later vehicles may have this wiring already in place.
  • Wiring required:
    • VMEF7 APIM pin 51 to ACM pin 6 CTRL MOD - Audio Head Unit DRDL_TX_+
    • VMEF8 APIM pin 52 to ACM pin 19 CTRL MOD - Audio Head Unit DRDL_TX_-
    • VMEG1 APIM pin 27 to ACM pin 5 CTRL MOD - BT/MM GW MOD DRDL_TX_+
    • VMEG2 APIM pin 28 to ACM pin 4 CTRL MOD - BT/MM GW MOD DRDL_TX_-

Asbuilt Settings:

  • APIM Asbuilt Settings

    • Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service (SDARS)
      • 7DO-01-01 Xxxx xxxx xxxx
        • SDARS must be enabled in the APIM.
    • X40 Setting (X40)
      • 7DO-08-01 xxxX xxxx xxxx
        • MN=Previous asbuilt value.
        • X40 setting=Must be changed from pre-X40 to X40.
        • Message setting=Previous asbuilt value.
        • CCS=Previous asbuilt value.

  • ACM Asbuilt Settings

    • Internal Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service (SDARS)
      • 727-01-01 Xxxx xxxx xxxx
        • SDARS must be enabled in the ACM.
    • Front/Rear Satellite Speakers
      • 727-01-01 xxXx xxxx xxxx
        • For Sony audio systems, Front/Rear Satellite Speakers must be set to Fixed Line Level.
        • For B&O or Revel audio systems, use previous asbuilt value.
    • A2B

        • A2B must be enabled for B&O or Revel audio systems.
        • A2B must be disabled for Sony audio systems.
    • SDARS Region

        • Tuner and SDARS Region must be NA/US.

        • Data Services must be enabled.

Note: SiriusXM Satellite Radio is available within the 48 contiguous US states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico (with some limitations), Canada, up to 150 nautical miles out into the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and the Great Lakes.

  • IPC Asbuilt Settings
    • For NA US vehicles that have tuner information displayed in the IPC, when replacing the old ACM with a CD player with a newer model not equipped with a CD player, the ENSS CD (ENSSCD) setting should be disabled.
    • Entertainment Non-Sync Source (ENSS)
      • 720-05-01 Xxxx xxxx xxxx
        • ENSSAMFM Enabled
        • ENSSCD Disabled
        • ENSSDAB Disabled
        • ENSSS Enabled
