Using any 2015+ Ford parking sensors on a 2015 Mustang and integrating them with Sync3

Hello there,

Since the 2015+ Ford Mustangs don’t come with front parking sensors but I saw some shops selling front sensor kits integrated with the Sync3 system (but for a lot of money), I was curious if I can do this by using any other Ford front parking sensors (like from a Mondeo or Fusion), drill the bumper and wire them to the Sync3 I have and program them to work?
And if yes, I would be curios if you can tell me what programming I need to do and what sensors I should buy.
My 2015 Mustang came with Sync2 but I retrofitted a Sync3 from a 2019 Ford Fusion and updated it with Cyanlabs.

I installed parking sensors into my 2021 Edge.

Please double check the location of the park aid module, but I believe that the PAM is integrated into the BCM for the mustang. You will have to run wires into the BCM. This is what I had to do for my 2021 Edge, but I already had wires connected to the BCM, so it was a little bit easier. Inserting wires into the BCM is not too difficult.

This depends on if it is a CGEA 1.2 or CGEA 1.3 Canbus architecture in most cases. 1.2 will always have a separate PAM module and they did not have front park sensor options other than the AP.

His 2019(According to his profile) is 1.3 and would have the integrated PAM into the BCM as you suspected.

I believe you have a separate PAM module for 2015 but don’t have diagrams in front of me right now. There is not option for front sensors on that PAM module. Not sure how they are doing those kits with CGEA 1.2

This is an example of some guys doing a kit.
Don’t mind it’s in German but as you can see they have somehow integrated the front parking sensors into a Sync from a 2015-2017 Mustang.
So basically if I get sensors and wires to the BCM I could get it to work if the PAM is integrated with the BCM? Otherwise not.

From this 2015 Mustang post, the PAM is located in the BCM:

I used the same rear sensors and put them on the front of my 2021 Edge.

Great find! Thanks a lot!
If it worked on The Edge it will probably work on the Mustang.
So basically now I need to know:

  • what kind of harness I would need (maybe I can use a rear sensor harness as well, I could get that for cheap at a junkyard);
  • where to wire it into the BCM;
  • what to change in Forscan to make everything work.

I ended up making my own harness, but it was a lot of soldering. I added 6 front parking sensors. A rear sensor harness would work well. For the location on the BCM, you will have to find another vehicle that uses the same BCM to see what pins are used. Each parking sensor has 3 pins: power, ground, and data. You will have a total of 6 new wires to the BCM. Changes in FORScan will be in the PAM and APIM. You will need to change it from 4 channel to 8 channel.

Can someone post the connector C2280F for a 2015 Mustang BCM?

Before you order any parts, test with FORScan to see if you can enable the front sensors and get the PAM DTCs for missing/open circuit front park aid sensors.

Yea, I’ll try that tomorrow.
Luckly I have a friend who has a harness and rear sensors to retrofit on his 2017 Mustang so he can test if they can be made to work for the front as well. 2015-2017 BCMs are the same.
Would a repair manual with the wiring diagrams help you out?

If it helps that is the exact same BCM a 2016-19 Explorer uses so it is CGEA 1.3.

This is what I found on C2280F

Perfect. Can you show all 1-40 pins?

Perfect. Can you also post BCM connector C2280D from the 2016-19 Explorer? That connector should have rear park aid sensors.

Here you go…

Mine showed all 40 pins

I am talking about the image from @georgegabriel. It only shows pins 30-40.

Yup, I posted the same thing right before him that showed all the pins.
