Version 22251 Issues Arising?

Congrats!

Hey @tomasbut , it would be nice for you to keep on eye on that partition in about a month or two… If this is a particular issue with a build, since you have installed a different one, should not increase.

I am getting the VER_ERR08 error when trying to downgrade (after the SYNC 3.4 build 22251 update-resetting each time I power off the truck)- I don’t understand how Ford cannot take responsibility for this with so many people experiencing the same issue shortly after the update they provided.
My rwdata folder is full. I am pre My20 and willing to risk just about anything at this point.
Is there a way to free up some space in rwdata?

Thanks SaNdMan, I’ve been trying all the suggested procedures to no avail. I assume they are referring to the Master Reset in the sync menu. I will run through a few more times as it seems to be hit and miss.
I would expect a reformat to be just that, so I’m a little perplexed as to why I get a ver_err08 error when trying to “remove files” through a reformat, if that is in fact what a reformat is doing-referencing my IT experience here.
I am new to this forum, so I may find more things to try as I dig.

  • There are soft, hard and master reset, all described here → Soft, Hard and Master Reset (SYNC 3) - 4D Tech Knowledge Base
  • Reformat is not master reset nor does “remove files”. Reformat does what the name says: reformats the unit, thus erasing EVERYTHING on the unit, even installed packages (yes, that includes the OS, maps, rwdata partition)… unit won’t be operative again until the reformat phase is completed
  • Going back to an older Sync3 version is required since the reformat tool has been blacklisted in most 3.4 builds
  • You need to reformat the unit in order to erase the rwdata partition… this is actually a “half-true” statement, since you are not just deleting the rwdata partition, you are starting everything from scratch.
  • Once you manage to downgrade to another build where the reformat tool is permitted, you should be good to go to fully reformat your unit with the desired version.

Perform a soft reset 2 times in a row as described above.

There is a reset procedure for Sync of doing 2 reboots in a row, right after the other, that can clear errors. It works for the BGMAP errors and a few others.

Thanks everyone for your help: Here’s what worked for me.
My master reset would hang, so I used forscan to reset the APIM a couple of times. then was able to do a normal Master Reset a couple of times from the touch screen. Ran the interrogator and discovered I now had some free space in the rwdata folder. Created a downgrade USB stick to version 3.3.19052. Finally was able to complete the downgrade. Updated with format option to to 3.4.22200. Ran interrogator and now have 781M free space. Disabled Auto update!! So far everything is back to normal.
I’m in Canada and you all just saved me $1000 for a new APIM.

Do you remember how much was it?

As the previous users, it’s recommended for you to run the interrogator log in about 2-4 weeks to see how the rwdata partition is doing. The idea behind this is to see if this issue is 22251 specific. Also, 3.4.21256 should be in your plans should this happen again, since it’s been flagged as the most stable version out there.

hello All,
u also downgraded to version 3.4 21265 today and it works quite straight forward.

I now have an error with the navigation which I suppose because I did not include the map Update as it was already F11…

what di you recommended? just do a map update or do a complete update/downgrande incl. map update?

Thanks for any suggestion…

Assuming you reformatted the unit, reformat the unit again, making sure all required packages are selected.

I did it with rhe downgrade option and keepinf original map option…

if I understand you correctly you propose a reformat incl same version and incl the f11 maps, right?

diesnt the map only update work ?

If you have the ver_err08 error, and the unit losing settings, it’s the best option to reformat to free up space in rwdata as you do so.

(Or jailbreak, and run the script that clears up the folders…)

I don’t remember exactly how much was free after the master resets, it was only a couple of MB. I will definitely run the interrogator a few times over the next couple of weeks to see if it’s slipping away. My system had been doing auto updating, so I am pretty sure I was getting the versions consecutively and no issues until 22251.

It does, but if you can reformat the unit I would not bother.

Hello and thanks to all for this site and the help.

I do still have issues if I am reading right.

Just recently I have been having issues (like past week or so). I have to do a soft reset every so often due to black screen. I get the hangup like you (@glendonmacburnie ) but cannot do a master reset from the screen.

I have tried doing soft reset and reset the APIM from ForScan a couple times.

Here is my log and, if I understand right, I need the rwdata to be open or am I reading it wrong and it is already clear and I am ok to go with the downgrade and then upgrade with reformat?

To note it has been laggy/slow to load (sync) for the past couple weeks.

I hope I am no rehashing someone else’s post…I just do not want to brick it.

Yep, rwdata is full.

I updated my Sync from 3 to this version and did a reset factory immediately after the first boot. So far so good. I’ll keep an eye on the partitions

Hello everyone,

I have the same issue with 3.4.22251 - my Sync 3 is resetting to Defaults (as described on first post, exactly here)
But I just read out my APIM with the interrogator tool and this is the result:

As you can see my rwdata is not full so despite it should I make a downgrade to 3.3.19052 and then Reformat with 3.4.21265 or what would you suggest to do?

Your APIM is not generating a complete log, there are some values that are not filled, so it’s not the same case. Maybe the APIM is failing.
Try 3.4.21256, but it’s not the same scenario.
