Total noob here. Sorry if I’m rambling a bit. I just got a 2017 Ford Explorer with Sync3 without Nav. (I’m not concerned about nav, especially if I can get Google Maps to work through Android Auto).
I started out with the issue that Sync3 was saying Nothing Found whenever I let it search for apps on my phone. On the Ford website I found that my Sync needed an update, so I tried having it update itself by wi-fi. Sync says it is connected to my wi-fi and it does the Check for Updates, but doesn’t seem to download the update. The support guy from the Ford website said to use the USB method. I downloaded 3.0.20204 from Ford and used the USB method. Sync said it updated but it didn’t put any file on the USB drive to report back to Ford. The Ford website shows I have 2.2.16280 and that matches what Sync still shows in the About Sync display so apparently the update did not work.
Before trying it again I was searching online for any information and found out about the Cyanlabs Sync3 Updater. I went to the Cyanlabs website and this looks like something I would try, but I can’t even figure out where to actually get the updater – sorry guys but the Cyanlabs website has dozens of ads, most of which don’t even bother even telling you what they are pitching, just DOWNLOAD HERE or START DOWNLOAD hoping you will download their crapware instead of the Updater.
SYNC Region: NA
Navigation Variant: Non Nav
Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20
Install Type: OEM
Old SYNC Version: 2.2.16280
New SYNC Version: 2.2.16280
Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
I didn’t copy the exact message. Sync said that it updated the software, but it didn’t.
Unfortunately i use Google Adsense, one of the most popular ad delivery platforms, a limitation of this however is that they are targeted ads and i have no control (with some exceptions) of what is actually delivered.
Unfortunately web hosting is not free/cheap, Ads are the easiest way to ensure a site remains online since it generates passive income just by users viewing the site (and clicking the ads)
We do offer a supporter package for only $3.50 a month that removes all ads but this is ofcourse completely optional.
I actually tried to make the position of ads less “deceiving” when i re-designed the website about a month or 2 ago, but since Google Adsense knows its a page to download a application you do always end up with the “Download Now” ads, which really should be filtered better by Google, however lets be honest Google probably turn a blind eye unless it makes really bad PR as ultimately they are a business and these “deceptive” ads make everyone involved money.
Thanks. I eventually found the right box. The scam ads have gotten a lot worse than they used to be.
I did manage to get the Ford update to work (I had to reformat the USB from FAT32 to ExFat) so now I have Sync3 up to 3.0.something. Sync3 still isn’t getting along with Android Auto on my Samsung S10e but that’s a problem for another day and another topic.
It is probably now showing version 3.0.20204 or 3.0.23219 which are the later updates for your model through Ford.
If you wish to update to the latest sync3 update in the 2020 + Fords (prior to sync4) you will need to go down the Cyanlabs track and obtain the latest version 3.4.23188.
I did this with no issues with my 2017 Ford Escape with maps in my case.
It’s showing 3.0.20204 now – which is as far a Ford thinks it ought to go. I’m going to take a few days working with that version before I decide if I want to jump to 3.4.23188 (which I have on a USB setup by Cyanlabs Updater).
My biggest problem right now is figuring out what Sync3 3.0.xxxxx ought to be doing and why it isn’t before I think about jumping to 3.4.xxxxx – this is getting way past the topic here, so I need to start a new topic.
