XM logos still not updating

I’ll know more info when get the N series units, I won’t have very much money wrapped up in them if I brick them.
I’ll hazard a guess on why I may be able to use the reformat, the 2018 Fusion Hybrid was kind of a transition in the logic, the door modules, BCM etc are GR2 family units, after mid 2018 they switch to the JU5 family that carried forward into the 2019-2020 Fusion.
Mine is an early 2018 Fusion Platinum (10/17 build) and the car is actually built more like a Mondeo Vignale when it comes to the wiring harnesses. I’ve got things like the connectors for the heated washer jets and heated windshield under the cowl (NA Fusion never had that as an option) and the door wiring harnesses were fully populated for the Mondeo power fold mirrors.
If I’m right the key to reformatting an L series and above APIM is that you have to do it in a car that doesn’t have the copy protect logic, eg a 2016 (Kuga/Escape), 2017 Fusion/Edge/F150, an early 2018 or possibly a car that has had an MFT to Sync3 conversion

Ford engineering part number scheme got changed in 2010. year “A”
So: LL3T-14G370-MCH
L year part introduced, there is no “I” so L=2020, M-2021, N=2022, K=2019, J=2018
L3T model family 1st introduced on, L3T is F150, S7T is Fusion/Mondeo etc
14G370 engineering reference number aka “call out”
1 part family 1=electrical
4 part group
G control module
3 digit number IDs part by vendor - in 2013 370 was Visteon Mexico, 371 was Continental AG (this IDs the part for defect tracking and is why you see identical modules eg TCU/APIM with different engineering numbers)
Final 2-3 letters/numbers identify variations (calibration, circuit board, component).

So to use a Fusion ACM which is a bit easier for the final block
FS7T-19C107-_ _
A = AM/FM
B = AM/FM/Sat
C = AM/FM/Sat/HD
The last digit is the calibration/firmware level
And while the external tag may read FS7T-19C107-CK , if the calibration is updated to last available in IDS (M) Forscan will report the part as FS7T-19C107-CM

The replacement part numbering is another whole ball of wax, so to use the 2 port slim USB module used in the F150 and the 2019/20 Fusion/Mondeo.
Assembly number is HC3T-14F014-AC , the replacement number is HC3Z-19A387-H and what is printed on the actual part may be entirely different.

This is correct. These were still using the older eMMC.

LU5T-14G371-CKF uses the older eMMC. Although it is classified as a MY20+ APIM by production model, it is equipped with the older ECU Core firmware/drivers.

Which makes perfect sense considering Ford’s habit of not changing things out prior to a model redesign or production end.
They left the H/J series APIMs with Sync 3.0.x in the Focus/Fiesta/Cmax & Escape all the way to MY2019, and the 2019-2020 Fusion’s logic is really close to the F150 which they kept Sync 3.4 in on some trims instead of going to Sync4 across the board in 2020.

I’m curious what the NU5T labeled unit I have coming in from the UK will have in it, I actually saw an eBay listing this AM where the seller lists the part as LU5T-14G371-CKF instead of the label.

Not just Ford…

This is due to export vehicles, and/or supply chain issues. There at still a few Ford and Lincoln vehicles which still use Sync 3 as export, as well as in the lower trims, due to either no support for Sync 4 worldwide or cost. Sync 4 is currently only supported fully in NA. EU support is scattered by country, but not all functions supported. Sync 4 is not supported in ROW.

NU5T will have Sync 3.4 from EU, provided the unit is actually EU with 64GB. It will be the newer eMMC. What sellers list is not always correct.

Without a doubt, the unit arriving today in theory came from a '22 Puma.
I’ll post the interogator.
I’ll have to change the region to 1U5T-146375-DA, anyone have a solution other than jailbreaking for wiping out what I assume to be EU maps so I can drop NA on?
I’m assuming my starting point is going to be NA2.20 as that version wasn’t locked like NA2.21 & NA2.22.

FMods is the only game in town. JB it and wipe the unit, than remove the JB and continue as normal.

NA2.20 is where you’ll need to be. However, FMods does have a utility to reformat all units, regardless of Model Year. The unit must be JB to use it. But you could remove the JB after you reformat the unit with the latest maps. I have tried this on a test APIM (2019 K series) and had no issues.

They’ve also got a non-format map update process that Navi’s videos show which seems to work on jail broke units as well.
After I get it working as a NA unit with NA2.20 that will be the next step.

They have had the map cleaner for a while. If you go that way the installation time for NA maps is about 1 hour 15 minutes. Reformat takes 28 minutes for everything.

Time isn’t really an issue here, this is more of a science experiment.
The next item after I have it fully 1 to 1 serviceable compared to the existing one in my Fusion is going to be trying the Ford Universal Calibration Update USB created by FDRS. I haven’t seen one of those in the wild where someone has used one with out the FDRS service procedure. so I’ll have to make one when I re-license my FDRS.
I do know that if the session in FDRS isn’t closed out completely when performing an APIM replacement with FDRS that the APIM will black screen after 10-15 starts. The Ford hotline can do an interactive support session and recover it, they put out a nastygram a while back that if an APIM failure was caused by the tech failing to close out the session that they weren’t reimbursing the labor cost to fix it.

Small update here, I still haven’t dropped in the N series APIM.
However…
Updated the calibration for the ACM & DACMC (these are done as a group) from HS7T-19C107-XD to HS7T-19C107-XE. No change even with module reset, car being taken off battery for an hour to force a cold boot and a refresh from Sirius.
Updated the calibration on the DSP from HS7T-18B849-AE to HS7T-18B849-AG, reset throws a “Sirius Updating” in the quadrant screen instead of across the top banner (first time I’ve seen that ever and I’ve had Sync3 with Sirius on various Fords since 2017). In the last 2 days I’ve had 6 logos for “new” stations that didn’t exist in 2018 (my Fusion’s MY) populate instead of the generic music note, nothing so far on “old” ones.
I’ve never heard of the DSP holding the new logos, so I’m not sure if something in the APIM was holding things up and the DSP update cleared it or what.
With my APIM I’ve never been able to get it above LU5T-14G371-CKH/1U5T-14G375-DA/1U5T-14G374-EH without it black screening on restart and then having to revert.

I tried the same things with my 2020 f-150. I believe what finally fixed my preset display and XM station logos was doing an as-built restore to my ACM.

This would kind of make sense as the ACM holds the presets and if you back up the current AB you would get the presets as well while dropping in the factory AB would wipe them out.
They’re held based on band in 727-05/-06/-07/-08.

FDRS now backs up the current module AB states to Ford’s cloud to “preserve owner customizations” when you touch a module in program mode. Now I’m curious if it actually updates the AB from the public AsBuilt site, a few people have the theory that this is more for catching people doing tunes after Ford got nailed for denying warranty engine claims based on the fact that the PCM factory AB had been recently reloaded to the PCM.
