XM logos still not updating

2018 Fusion Platinum with an L series APIM.
Bit of history here, prior to the RWDATA cleaner getting thrown into the mix I’ve never had an issue with the XM logos updating after using the updater to reformat my APIM so that I could get my maps updated.
I’m on my 8th iteration since just taking my build to .23188 with the RWdata cleaner.
I’ve downgraded back to the previously loaded build (.21265) with no luck (and have had it on that for a month), done the full reformat (.23188 w/ NA 2.22 maps) with the same results, downgraded that install to .21265 without reformating with no luck, and also done a full reformat using last years .21265 and NA 2.21 maps which should have put it back to the original state before the APIM ever saw .23188 or the RW DATA cleaner.
The logos still haven’t updated, I’ve had XM do the refresh more than once, pulled the battery cable from the car for 2 hours and I’ve run out of ideas.
It’s almost like the partition is now R/O, but I’m not having a problem any of the normal problems you’d expect if the partition couldn’t be written to.

Curious how do you know you have an L series APIM? These did not come out until 2020+ unless you had it replaced. You can’t reformat a 2020+ APIM like an L series that you say you have.

Are you referring to Station logo’s or Album logo’s?

This seems to be the question that gets asked quite often. As a 2017 Fusion owner, I face the same issue. Station logos are just limited to a subset of older logo images that are stored in one of the folders in the app folder. I regrettably updated my sync to 3.4 at least 2 years ago and this was the first thing I noticed. First I had no station logos at all. Then after a downgrade to the lowest version available, I got some logos to work, but very few. But the ones that did work such as Classic Rewind, has the most recent logo. Once the RWDATA was cleared, I only have the older logos now. From what I understand, Sirius is not transmitting the station logos to the older platform. I think just the newer SiriusXM radios will get the updated station logos. I have come to accept that and have moved on. You will not get an answer here, that I guarantee. The reason I regret updating my sync at all is that this sole issue has caused my to waste more of my time with upgrades, downgrades, research, etc… on this exact issue and have gotten nowhere. I do hope one day that there will be an updated version in the future that will include all of the missing and outdated station logos. It drives me crazy and I know it shouldn’t, but it does. Good luck and try to stay out of the inevitable rabbit hole that you are headed down.
No offense intended to anybody involved in this project. How can they possibly know every outcome of every different situation? They can’t and have done a great job.

In my case this is the first time seeing this and it directly is related being touched by the RWDATA cleaner and/or .23188

My “first” iteration was doing my MFT to Sync3 conversion on my 2014 Fusion Hybrid with a K series APIM and the ACM at the last calibration release (CM) and I went to .29194 with NA2.19 maps. Did the master reset, XM logos were the old ones and over a week or so I got 3-4 Sirius Updating messages on the screen and the logos repopulated with the new ones.

Fast forward, traded my 2014 in for a 2018 Platinum, updated the factory J series APIM using a reformat and went to the same build combination .29194/NA2.19 and had the same experience, new logos came in over a 2 week period. I then upgraded to an L series (LL3T-14G370-MCH) due to a compatibility issue (putting my heated/cooled seat buttons on the home screen caused my FCIM controls to stop working) The experience was the same anytime I did a build version update followed by a master reset and also each time I did a full reformat to update the maps to NA221 & NA222.

So this has to be directly tied into the RWDATA cleaner and/or .23188 because the problem manifested after that update and it didn’t go away with with a reformat to .21265/NA222.
Hence the question, has anyone else seen this?
I’ve had XM refresh the car more than once as well as remove the ESN and put it back on the account, I’m not seeing the Sirius Updating messages and the logos didn’t update for channels that switched to holiday music in December.

Actually you can reformat a 2020 L series APIM, just not in a 2020+ MY vehicle since those look for a copy protection marker memory block on the APIM. It gets written on first boot of the vehicle when built or when the tech closes the APIM replacement service procedure in FDRS.

I’ve had an L series APIM (LL3T-14G370-MCH) in my 2018 Fusion Platinum since October, 2020 I dropped it in because I ran into a compatibility issue where the FCIM controls stopped working if I put my heated/cooled seat buttons on the APIM home screen

Last year, I had the Holly logo on channel 79 for the holiday season, and it stayed on until September. Now it has no logo. At least the channel names do update when they are supposed to.

Holly this year had no logo for me and Country Christmas still showed the Prime Country logo.

The 'built in" logos are held in the ACM firmware and previously, updated ones were held in the RWDATA partition which were read in by the APIM if one was newer than what was on the ACM.
My gut is making me wonder if Ford’s cleaner utility is also making a change to the storage in the APIM instead of just doing a file delete to clear space. Something along the line of the memory blocks the logos were to be written to being hard coded in the OS and the utility marking the blocks as bad so that they could not longer be written to.

I agree with your synopsis. The cleaner utility must have done something to affect it. The prior version made the partition fill up and we were forced to use it unfortunately. I am still hopeful for a new version that will fix it but I assume Ford is abandoning the sync 3 platform at this point. I wish the SiriusXM App for Carplay had a good user interface, but it is the opposite of that. It is the worst of the worst. It has better sound quality than the satellite feed, but it is impossible to use.

I haven’t heard of that specifically, but I have been able to use the standard reformat procedure on some L APIM modules.

I don’t remember what the build date was exactly, but I think it was something between mid to late 2019.

As for the Sirius issue I remember there being something about updating calibration or something to get the logos… but this was years ago when we just started doing the 3.4 updates and folks were losing their logos in general.

I’ll try to do some digging and see what I can find.

Not wrong but twisting things a bit, FDRS doesn’t use the old leaked reformat tool that has incompatible “drivers” therefore reformatting with that is probably fine, reformatting with the leaked reformat tool not so much

It does make sense that FRDS can only format (not re format if it’s the first time) if it’s blank though, but yeah i believe these are 2 unrelated discussions due to the technology and method used.

My guess is that the ability to reformat an L series is directly related to if the vehicle is supported by FDRS.

I’ve got a US Nav N series and a UK Nav N series that I’ll have access to in a couple of weeks, I’ll report back what happens with those using the standard reformat using my Fusion.

Thank you. The APIM identifies itself as LU5T-14G371-CKF, which is in fact MY20.

For clarification purposes: did you reformat this APIM with syn3updater (Ford’s leaked reformat package)?.

I’ve recently learned that what the interrogator log sees is the 14G371 model number, which may not be the same as the one in the sticker… If you search our hw db there’s no reference to LL3T-14G370-MCH since it’s a 14G370 model number… But there are plenty of LU5T-14G371-CKF APIMs listed…

Ford’s logic at its best, once again…
So, if the sticker shows a 14G371 model, that’s the APIM model… If it has a 14G370, it will be something else… But, both “numbers” start with L, so MY20 for sure…

Plenty of assembly 14G370 out on eBay, for example

I pulled my unit from a wrecked F150 Supercrew Platinum.with a 06/2020 build date.

This is a link to an old spreadsheet on 2gFusions where one user had started tracking if a part label was NAV or not.

This was re-formated for the update to the NA2.21 map and the NA2.22 updated, I kept it on .21265 ever since that build was released as I had zero problems with it.
Since it had .23188 put on it I’ve re-formetted 3-4 times trying to troubleshoot/resolve the logo issue.

I cannot say why can you reformat it, you should not be able to.
But hey, if it works, it works, but I would not tempt that luck on any other MY20 APIM, not with Syn3updater.
