2016 F150 - Sync 3.0 update screen black

Hello community members, thank you for the acceptance in this very knowledgeable group. I am having an issue in regards to my attempt to upgrade my sync 3.0 (build 23219) in my 2016 F150. A little history, when I bought the truck from a Ford dealership, the radio (apim and screen) were replaced with new Ford parts. Following the cyanlabs instructions to upgrade my sync3.0 to the latest sync 3.4 and 3.3 afterwards, when I inserted my usb stick in the port, the radio displayed a message saying restarting. The screen went black and nothing happened. It will not open under no circumstances, even after trying soft resets, pulling the fuse out. I plugged in Forscan to see what was going on, and 4 codes appeared under the FCIM (U0155, U0253, U0401 and U0452). I tried rebooting the APIM and FCIM with no luck. I tried the self test for FCIM and everything worked fine. I tried the self test with APIM and no communication was established (ABS malfunction light appeared for 3 seconds). I looked at the asbuilt codes for the APIM and everything looks in order. No matter what I try, the screen always remains black (inoperative). I read somewhere along the lines of the community of possible fixes and downgrades, however I need someones expert advice to re-assure me before I attempt anything that could permanently damage (bricked) the APIM, if its not already. The only strange thing I did notice are the usb lights of the hub, the illuminate for about 2-3 minutes, and then they shut off. If I perform a soft reset (volume knob + seek right, 5 seconds), they illuminate again for 2-3min and shut off again. Otherwise I am pretty stuck as it is, if anyone can shine in on my disaster of situation, it will greatly help me. Thank you in advance for your great support, looking forward to hear some advice. FYI I live in Canada, no navigation maps.

Hello.

Since it seems you have Forscan, can you share the APIM’s model ?

Part Number: JS7T-14G371-JHG

Sadly, that’s MY20 hardware and can’t be reformatted, but the USB you created did.

So it’s now bricked.

By the way, if you had check for that while using Syn3updater, Syn3updater would had flagged it as MY20 and prevent such USB creation.

Your options are limited:

Thank you for the fast response, appreciate the support

Look over at FMods for the Universal Reformat Tool. Other than replacing the APIM, that’s your only opinion, really.

Can’t hurt to try, but as far as I remember that tool requires the unit to be jailbroken…

Thank you guys, appreciate again the support. Given my low level of IT knowledge, I think my best and only option is to replace my bricked apim. Hopefully Ford can replace the unit since its under warranty. Unless I can find someone who can recover it. I will still have a look at the referenced links just to learn more. Thanks again for the fast support, appreciate all the responses
