2016 F150 Sync 3 CarPlay help

First I’d like to start off saying that I am computer illiterate and I apologize for that lol. My sync 3 had never been upgraded from software version 1.0. After getting a new WiFi router at home it improved my signal and at some point it has upgraded to software version 3.0 build 19205. After noticing that I wanted to try and enable CarPlay. I purchased what was supposed to be an oem replacement hub on Amazon part number HC3Z-19A387-F. After installing there was still no CarPlay. I haven’t noticed any changes to the appearance of the display since the upgrade and it says the last time it was checked for updates was 2006 lol. Any help or advice would be great since I’m not good with computer stuff. I honestly don’t know what to think. Some post say you have to install 2.2 first for it to work and others have said it doesn’t matter. Trying to upgrade to 3.4 scares me because I have read there is a chance of bricking your apim. I have bad luck so it would probably happen

Does Android Auto work?.

Try installing 2.2.17011, take this post as guidance → 2016 Mustang Sync3 1.0 updated to 3.0 and no Apple Carplay! - #10 by SaNdMaN

Then you can go back to your current or latest 3.0 (3.0.19205 is not the latest, you should have a pending update).

I’m going to get my mom’s android phone today and see if Android auto will work then go from there

So I tried AA and nothing. Phone connects with Bluetooth and usb cord. Everything works like my iPhone just no AA. You seem to be very familiar with all this. Would you be interested in downloading the 2.2 to a Zip drive and the 3.0 to one and mailing to me. I’d be happy to pay you for your time and Zip drives. I could Venmo you.

If Android Auto does not work then your next step is to install 2.2.17xxx as the referenced post instructs. 2.2.17xxx has been flagged as “Android Auto / Car Play enabler”. I asked if Android Auto worked because it’s more forgiving than Car Play.

I won’t be able to do that for you, but I’m sure you can do that yourself by following the post. If you have doubts you can ask here, but all you need is a Sandisk USB (or whatever good brand you locally have) a way to put the files on the USB and that’s it.
