Upgrading my 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum Sync 2 to a Sync 3 system. Bought the screen and APIM from marketplace and I believe it came from a Ford Fusion. Made it fit in the car with the brackets. I bought the updated USB hub to work with Sync 3. Did a manual upgrade and I am currently sitting at version 3.0.20204. I am seeing a bunch of misellaneous bugs in the radio but was thinking a fresh upgrade would help out. I was wanting to use the CyanLabs updater as I used it for my 2016 Ford F150 and it worked flawless. Is there anyway I can use the cyanlabs updater to get to a newer version on my 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum with retrofitted sync 3 apim/screen and usb hub. I dont see an option in the cyanlab updater to choose my current version of 3.0.20204. Any help or info is greatly appreciated. One issue we are seeing is when plugged into an android phone it will randomly drop connection and we have tried various cables with same result.

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
Various bugs
Did I make a huge mistake buying this from a fusion? I also noticed I lost capabilities on the instrument cluster that were there before like tire pressure and such.
APIMs are pretty much agnostic, this all comes down to the backend AsBuilt custom config that has to be done to get the unit to work right with a non-Sync3 vehicle.
Even getting one from a newer year of the same model doesn’t guarantee that the config will be correct for your vehicle.
Thank you very much! so I need to grab my as-built info and reconfigure it. Is there somewhere on here people go to share their as-built data and get recommendations? or is it something I shop for?
Your best bet for a place to start would be to find a 2017 Explorer on one of the used car sites that matches your options and use its VIN to down that vehicle’s AB.
Ohh so my replacement APIM module needs to have same features my car has and I need to apply the As Built info for the car the APIM came from to retain my features? dont try to flash the new APIM with my As Built data?
You don’t use your ASBuilt for the new APIM, you would use one from a 2017 Explorer with the same features. The APIM is pretty much agnostic, it only comes in NAV & non-NAV, everything else is in the AB with a few exceptions for firmware items (eg a K or L series in order to be able to drop an X40 ACM in).
Can I use my current APIM and find a VIN from a 2017 Explorer Platinum with Sync 3 equipped preferably with navigation, then pull the APIM As-Built from Motorcraft.
