2018 Ford Edge Titanium 3.4 issues

Hey all, new here so sorry if I posted in wrong area. I have been running 3.4 for about 7 months with no issues until recently. I was provided a software update that somehow converted my screen area to 4" instead of the 8". I have been trying to get this back to normal with no luck… Any ideas? I’m assuming the update provided was incorrect and that screwed me up. I have no access to menus or anything, it literally looks like a base model vehicle now :(>… Please help!!

“I was provided a software update”
Can you explain that?

I contacted the person that provided me with the 3.4 update, I recently started receiving a notification asking if I wanted to turn auto update on every time I turned my car on. He suggested I update to a newer update. Sent me a non nav version via one drive. After I installed that update my screen now looks like this. I have tried to update again and use a downgrade he sent me with 0 luck.

Your software update was for the 4’ screen, not the 8". Use the Syn3 Updater to install the latest version, this should correct your issue. Or use the last version you had that was good. If all else fails, use the Syn3 Updater to ‘downgrade’ to 3.3.19052 and reformat the unit to the latest version. Since you have a 2018 Edge, this should be safe.

I will give that a try, everything I have tried so far has resulted in “software update” on the screen which then freezes after about an hour. You can pull the usb out and still shows software update and nothing else. I have formatted usb each time, along with pulling battery since I have no access to menu.

Going to try this tomorrrow after work.

Do you have Navigation? Or not? What was the original Sync version in the car?

What file was installed? Tar.gz file name please

Non nav - I will get the file info in the am and let you know which one it keeps getting hung up on. I’m
Hoping for better luck after work

You have insufficient storage (memory) to perform the update and you are stuck at the 4" version. Read the tutorial I posted above and follow the instructions to delete Gracenotes. The smaller voice file is not relevant since you are in the US. Run the APIM Interrogator and see what your storage values are. You will need to free up about 1.3 to 1.5GB to recover the unit to downgrade. Post the XML file from the APIM Interrogator and we can help you.

Prepared both drives, will run utility first and report back after work.

Update : tried to run the downgrade off the sync updater, screen shows updating system at top. No errors, but it freezes after sometime. Can remove usb and screen still shows updating. I let run for roughly 45 minutes and no luck.

Did you try and run the tools in the order they are shown in the updater app?

1st: gracenotes removal
2nd: smaller voice package
3rd: downgrade

Based on the log it seems you still don’t have enough space.

The free space looks ok to process the files, but you have a fragmented storage system. System voice looks to be partially installed or broken (/fs/Nuance/ = 3.1M / 465M) and the rwdata is blank. Gracenotes is not present.
Run the downgrade to 3.3.19052 without any other files and then reboot the unit. Do not try to reformat or install anything else.
Run the APIM Interrogator and see if it worked.

I will give that a try and report back.

I’m not sure why the unit is failing to downgrade. There is plenty of free storage space. (2.1GB) I don’t know if the unit being loaded with the 4" version is an issue here.

There is a chance that loading the 4" version of 3.4.19200 might downgrade and enable you to then reformat. This is a longshot…

Go to the Ford APIM IVSU Database - CyanLabs

Download 5U5T-14G381-DD
408Mb Sync3 v3.4.19200 19.07.2019

Run it like you would the other downgrade.

Worth a shot trying that now.

If all else fails, looks like I’ll be buying a new APIM, don’t think the dealer will warranty this LMAO
