2018 Mustang TCU retrofit

Hello there! I’m trying to add TCU from 2019 EU Ford EcoSport (KN15-14G229-AJ) to my 2018 USA Mustang (currently in EU).
All hardware except 2 cellular antennas in rear bumper connected properly.
My Sync 3.0.23219 recognized ESN correctly after 1 day. 8 –> 9 in APIM changed.

The problem is that TCU stuck in Unprovisioned Mode. My APIM asbuilt:

Currently used Firmware:

I’ve tried to change Country code in APIM to EU,UK,RS, tried to change B138 to B100, and deleting Fordpass.
Multiple Master reset performed too. Any ideas?

Firmware.

You need to update the TCU to -CT as shown as available and update the APIM firmware. You need to be on at least a J series firmware rather than an H series firmware in the APIM. You should upgrade to Sync 3.4 and The MY18.5+ firmware in the APIM to use this TCU.

Sorry, my mistake, CT in available

For Sync 3.4 I can use latest version in Sync Updater without problems?

That’s only the software, you need the firmware upgrade to MY18.5+. At a minimum to this level…

3.2/3.3 APIM NAV & NON-NAV Unit Firmware (Production Release, 2018.5, Late J thru K Series)
Secondary Boot Loader: GB5T-14G376-AA
Strategy (F188): 1U5T-14G374-DA (6/27/2018)
Calibration (F124): 1U5T-14G375-DA (NAV) / 1U5T-14G375-CA (NON-NAV)
ECU Configuration/Sound Profiles (F10A): GB5T-14G379-AA
ECU Configuration/Illumination Strategy (F16B): JB5T-14G379-BA (6/7/2018)

You will also need an asbuilt from a similar Mustang for the TCU. That asbuilt is for the Ecosport and is not the same.

Little update, TCU updated successfuly, in the moment trying to find European Mustang 2018 with TCU pre-installed to get asbuilt.
APIM firmware next, then Sync update from 3.0.23219 to 3.4.26057.
Some people said that USB hub will stop working and I will lose Apple Carplay funcionality after Sync update. Is that right?

If it’s an older hub it does not support CarPlay, but yours could being a 2018. You can check the part number against the info.

If you previously had CP working then it should work after the updates.

Ok, so APIM updated to latest CA available for my hardware

Sync 3 updated to 3.4.26057 (everything working, thank you for that software)
Now I’ve got problem with TCU, which is throwing DTC that it is not configured.
I’ve got asbuilt from 2019 NA Mustang, which had 6 blocks (754-06-02 is the last one), then I’ve searched for 2020 NA Mustang, those had 22 blocks (754-22-01 last).
My TCU after update had only 16 blocks 1FA6P8TH2J5161952_TCU_20260522_174124.abt (1.6 KB).
At the moment I’m searching for 2019-2020 EU Mustang VIN number or asbuilt, because NA doesn’t work (even with B138 in first line).

You need to stay with the J-series firmware and the 6 blocks of data for the TCU. K-series firmware will not work with your vehicle. As far as the DTC on the TCU, does the TCU see a network and are you in a restricted country like Ukraine?

Use this as a guide…
Sync Connect APIM & TCU Programming and Activating.pdf (520.8 KB)

Can you explaing how should I downgrade to J -series? Available list in my Forscan is:
KT1T-14G087-EB to KT1T-14G087-ET. I upgraded to last one, but when I’ve tried to change it back to orginial KT1T-14G087-EL - nothing happened. 17 blocks of data and calibration level not changed.
I’m updating block outside the car “on table”, so at this moment it doesnt have antennas connected.
In car cellular signal is 130-140.

Tiu do not want to upgrade to a K series firmware. If you are on the firmware listed a JX7T you need to stay there, as you have the latest firmware for that series. You have no country or network identified by the TCU in your 2nd pic. Until you have that the TCU will not authorize.

So, the problem with TCU was that originaly it comes with JL3T firmware, and after I’ve updated it to JX7T it stopped working (guess because HS4 can line, mine Mustang doesnt have it, only HS3).

After update it showed up in Sync general menu.
Cell signal fine, but still in Unprovisioned mode.
Maybe I need to do something with APIM firmware? This is latest available for my APIM

F150Chief told you this in the 10th post right before yours. He did not mention HS3/HS4 specificlly though why you could not use the K series Calibration.

Side note, this goes to show though why just updating calibrations to the latest one is not always a good idea.
