WOW - so the bug is in Ford’s code and not in yours. OK - I fixed the problem as explained above with connecting the Ford to a Guest network created without “.” periods (full-stops).

This is not a bug. Not all characters are supported by all devices or OS’s for passwords, etc. Different cyphering techniques have their own restrictions, this is normal.
