Apps Dont Show Up on Sync 3

Hello, i have a 2016 Ford escape and when i connect my phone via usb all the apps never show up, the only app that i have gotten to show up on the sync is Pandora, but nothing else. I tried to update the sync 3 to version 3.4, but all of the apps still dont show up. Maps should be able to show up without navigation if connected to usb right?

That’s an Android Auto setting on your phone.
You set the viewable apps there and if you don’t have a default map app set, maps will not show.
As an example I have Google Maps, Waze and Sygic on my phone with it set to default to Waze since my V1 radar detector has a 3rd party Waze integration app available.

apologies, i actually have an Iphone, i forget to specify that.

With an iPhone the 2016 requires the USB media hub to replaced before it will work.
You also need to be on Sync3 build 2.2 or higher.
What build are you currently on?

Ford started removing app support natively a lot of builds ago, so that’s expected. I’m running 3.0 and I have zero apps supported by Sync3.
Since I use Wireless Android Auto, I do not care…

ah i had a feeling that it might be the usb hub, didnt want to hear it though because i have no idea how to get it replaced. its currently on 3.4, i updated it from 1.0

ah does this mean that i wont be able to get app support at all? thats kinda sad, guess im gonna have to buy a phone holder so that i can use maps.

I think you have a little confusion… Sync3 used to support apps like pandora or glypmse back in the day, they would be listed under applications by just having a phone paired over bluetooth, without android auto or car play enabled since this has nothing to do with those interfaces…

So, you said “apps don’t show”, and I explained that about apps.

If you talk about car play or android auto, having a 2016 you should upgrade your usb hub…

So, what’s your scenario / question?, about apps or carplay/android auto?

ah, apologies for me being unclear. By apps, i mean everything, i tried to open up many different apps on my phone like maps, waze, or Spotify, and none of them pop up onto the screen when i have my iPhone connected via USB, the only app that would pop up is pandora, hence i was wondering what the solution could be. Now i understand that a possible solution is the USB hub, thank you very much, and once again apologies

I see… ok, nothing to do with native app support from Sync3 then.

For a 2016 you should have to change the HUB for a CP compatible one, check this thread for reference → Media Hub, CarPlay Compatible - 2015-2020 Ford/Lincoln - SYNC 3

Out of curiosity, did you ever see a “USB HUBs not supported” message while running your current system with 3.4 ?

Also, do you have an Android phone to test with?, Android is more forgiving that iOS…

ah yes i did see it pop up but i still had slight hope that it was something else other than the usb ports. My hope was crushed here xD. im now gonna go and order that part, thank you so much. sadly i don’t have a android phone to try.

It’s an easy replacement on the Escape.
Pop out the bezel holding the module, pop the module out of the bezel and then reverse to put it back in.
