Before I Start: Question about updating from 1.0 to 3.4

Hello, I’m new here. I have a 2016 Ford F-150 with SYNC3 1.0 on it. I have downloaded 3.4 onto a USB stick and plan to attempt an install. Before I waste 30 minutes of gas I thought I’d see if anyone has any advice for me.

Should I attempt a 2.2 install first?
Is my car even able to receive the 3.4 version?
Any other tips?

Hello.

Yes, you should make sure Car Play and Android Auto work before upgrading to 3.4, you may need to replace the HUB. So install 2.2.17xxx first to ensure that.

Let syn3updater create the USB directly so that it can validate the files on the USB.

Your car was never meant to receive 3.4, but you can install it, yes.

Thank you. I just re-opening the app and it only gives me the option to download version 3 and higher. Where did the 2.2’s go?

You will have to manually create it, the app only works for 3.x…

One thing that changed since then, is our ISV DB gives you the option to download the autoinstall.lst file needed for installing the downloaded file…

How do I know if CarPlay is going to work?

Try it, Android Auto as well.

I also updated to 3.4. Plugged in my phone and there is no CarPlay happening. Maybe I need the newer USB port?

Do not take this the wrong way, but what’s the point of asking for advice?.

Yes.

If after replacing the HUB CP still does not work, then you are among the ones that CP was not activated because of skipping 2.2.17xxx… if that’s the case, there’s nothing else to do since you can’t go back to 2.2 (hence my recommendation to make sure CP worked BEFORE upgrading to 3.4).

Hopefully, that won’t be the case, but you will only know once you replace the HUB.

Thanks. I did install 2.2 and at that time I noticed the android settings in the software, but no CP settings appeared. I will order the hub and see if it works.

That’s a good sign. AA or CP icons will appear after a successful connection.
If you do not require CP and AA works, then you should be fine.
