Black screen after 3.4 update

On my 2018 fusion hybrid I had sink 3.0 and wanted to update to 3.4 I followed the directions for the cyan labs syn3 updater and when I put the USB into the car it had the normal updating message but then finished under 10 seconds. I restarted the car and the screen was completely black with no backlight. Did I brick it? Audio does not work but climate control does, soft reset does nothing.

According to your description, most likely, yes.
Did you check if it was MY20?.

No to sound like a jerk but you also did not read the instructions like it asks if you did. It tells you not to remove the USB drive when it first tells you to and like you said, you did.

You also say you have Nav in your title as a Titanium would have it. But in your setup log you have no Nav. Which is it?

Lastly you need to use a quality USB drive unless you want more problems.

I did not check. Since it is a 2018, I assumed it would be alright.

I did not remove the USB. When the car said update complete the screen went black immediately after. I then turned the car off and back on- to a still black screen.

The car is a titanium, but does not have nav. My USB was a quality 128gb USB 3.0

So it sounds like you were just trying to do a basic Sync version update than.

Since it was a reformat that would be required to goto 3.4 I will second what Sandman said. Sounds like it could be a 2020+ module. Only way to know is to use Forscan to get the Model# or take it out and get a pic of the sticker on the APIM.

Right, well, you can’t tell what happened before, it could had been replaced in a past service…

Not much to do at the moment other than validating the APIM part number as Bill said.
If you have forscan and an adapter you can read that with forscan, otherwise you will have to unmount the unit and check the sticker on its back.

For the Fusion, the only year that the Ti had factory NAV as standard was MY2020.

Well, I found the culprit- I’ve got an apim from 2022. I guess the saying about assuming was right :sweat_smile: .

So, what’s the next step? Is it possible to get a bricked one fixed, or do I get a new one? If I do have to get a new one, what is a reputable seller?

Since the APIM is from 2022 then yes, it’s bricked.

Your options are limited:

Since you are from NA, you could get in touch with Naviupgrade. I’m not affiliated but he is even a forum member and provides a recovery service. As far as I know, that recovery service is done with the 1st option from the list. He also sells APIMs if it comes to that.

Actually incorrect.

Since it was a final year every Fusion Ti got NAV and it was one of the few MY2020 vehicles that got 5 years of free map updates.https://blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/files/file/486-2020-fusion-order-guide/

2018 and 2019 both had the 360 package standard for the Ti which included Nav. The Hybrid is the only one that did’nt. Not sure why you bring up the map package. I have a 2020 and know this.
