Black screen after update attempt

Not really…

If you are still able to return it, I would go down that path…

I wish I could… I’ve got it in USA and brought it to Brazil.

To make things even worse, had to pay 100% of its value in taxes.

I agree that is a 100% fake APIM. The mismatched part number on the front and back are a clear sign among others. The Chinese security stickers are a dead giveaway also. Gosh I could go on all night about the poor fake job these goons did on this one. LOL

And it ended up costing as much as a original one…

Anyway, is there something I can do? Or just throw it away? Can Forscan help with it?

You may be able to reclaim the taxes if you’re returning it.

@SaNdMaN so I’ve received my Forscan cable and I am able to read APIM coding.

I can’t do a firmware update with it though. As it’s a cheap cable. I just bought another one that’s supposed to work.

Also it’s showing a DTC on APIM.
Code B108E Display
Additional Fault Symptom 4A
Incorrect Component Installed

That’s what it gives me.
I didn’t find where I can check APIM model though.

If you can’t work your way through the Forscan menus then you shouldn’t be messing with Firmware updates.

Does this one look genuine and compatible with my car? If so then I’ll buy it if I can’t fix mine…

Yes, that looks genuine. A J series like this would be from 2018.

Sorry. I didn’t really look though all menu tabs.

I was able to find out APIM part number.

Am I able to reinstall firmware though Forscan when I get the recommended cable? Even it’s a fake thing?

If it can be read, it can be written, no?

Thanks man. I will keep trying to fix this thing first. If it’s really dead then I’ll get a new module.

That’s the same price of what I paid for the whole fake thing before taxes. :man_facepalming:t2:

Your problem isn’t firmware its software.
ForScan reads the back end, a bit like being in the BIOS setup of a PC/laptop.
Between that and the Sync 3 app coming up you also have the QNX based OS, your problem is with the APP.

So if this were a PC you’d be booting up to a black screen because of say a bad video driver and there’s no safe mode here.

Okay… And can I rewrite the software back to it?

Not with ForScan.
Its done via the USB and with a dead screen you have no way to tell what’s going on, after that the next option is a bench rig.

I assume it have to be done with Linux and sync3flash tool, right?

Id assume that’s what he means yeah

So I’ve been told that the issue was because my screen was MY20 and my APIM not.

I just bought a full APIM with screen that came out of a 2018 Mustang. Will try to replace screens and see what happens.

That’s a possibility, yes. If that’s the case, just swap screens and it should work.
Keep the most OEM components, put the other ones back to operational state and sell them to get some of your money back.

Finally managed to fix this thing!

Put the 2018 screen on my APIM and it finished the updating process. Put my screen back and it’s 100% functional now!

Wanna give a big thanks to @smileifuh8ppl2 who helped me out with the process!

That’s great to know.
Do you happen to have the new APIM’s part number at hand?. Is that J series one you sent before?.
