Black screen and no power usb

Hi.
Ford S-Max 2017 - after inserting the pendrive with the update from 3.0.2004 EU to 3.4.2220 EU after a few seconds the message is displayed - update finished, remove the USB and the screen goes black, there is no power in the USB, the Forscan reset does not help . How can I fix it?

If you have a black screen then something has been replaced in your car and it has a MY20 APIM or Screen, to confirm this we would need the part number which can only be retrieved by physically removing the unit.

Yes.

When you pull the unit out, you will see a sticker with that part number, but most importantly, when the APIM was manufactured. These are the 2 important pieces of information.

A J series APIM should not be MY20, but Ford started replacing APIMs with older part numbers but new hardware (MY20/+).

Let’s go step by step:

  • Warnings, there are plenty about MY20 hardware during the process. So yeah, there are plenty of warnings
  • About your particular APIM, did you run the interrogator log and then have it processed by Syn3updater before starting or creating the USB you used for upgrading?.
    If you didn’t, how can Syn3updater know what your unit is even running?.

Highly unlikely, since MY20 APIMs also changed something about eMMC which the leaked reformat tool does not handle. That would work if your APIM was older with previous architecture but the screen was newer.

Yes unfortunately that’s why we say if you aren’t sure to click yes and run the check, you clicked no as “you were sure” this is therefore unfortunately a user error and you will need a replacement APIM
