Black screen while trying to update

Well this would have been nice to know in the beginning. You’re not even using Cyanlabs for your update? Where did you get this so call update USB than? Sync does not sell them.

Sorry I think there is a misunderstanding. I am trying to update with cyanlabs I downloaded all the files and followed as best I know the instructions.
I do also have a usb stick I bought from the ford website to update my sync butI am not using it.
What do I do about the issue I’m seeing “sync3 usb detected” and then nothing happens

All I was saying regarding the ford usb stick was that maybe there are some files on it that could be useful since its tailored to my VIN, but I really don’t know anything maybe I should of phrased it more like a question… Would a ford issued sync usb help if I had one…

Here is the deal, Ford does not sell USB sticks with their update. Now I am worried you got scammed and who knows what’s on that USB stick.

Ford gives you the update for free on their website. You can buy a map update through Ford and that does come on a USB stick. Is that what you have?

yeah I think that’s probably what I have just a map update. I could have downloaded it but I chose they send me a stick.

This is where I got the usb drive https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/

That makes a lot more sense.

So, download all the files noted in the 2 lst files.
Get a USB stick and format it as MBR.
On the USB stick, make a directory called SyncMyRide, exactly.
Copy all of the downloaded files to that directory. Remember, these files must be named EXACTLY the same as in the LST files.
Copy the 2 LST files to the root of the USB.

Now you can take that USB and put it in the vehicle.

For reference, this explains the structure of the USB as an example. Don’t worry about the MSA file, it’s optional…

USB (root)

autoinstall.lst
DONTINDX.MSA (optional)
SyncMyRide (folder)

JR3T-14G424-CF_1626994374000.TAR.GZ
JR3T-14G421-CF_1626995795000.TAR.GZ
JR3T-14G422-CH_1626995976000.TAR.GZ
GB5T-14G386-AC_1587495565000.TAR.GZ

This is exactly what I have done only difference I can tell is that your asking that my usb drive be formatted to MBR instead of exfat?

Sorry, EXFAT MBR. That needs to be specified with a Mac.

Try a master reset first, then run the update. Are you still on Sync 3.0 build 23219?

last time I checked I’m still on the same update. so I guess ill just do a master rest and try and. Thank you again!! ill let you know how it goes

Well, I tried multiple times and all that happens when I plug in the usb is that same message sync3 usb detected and then nothing else.

So, the unit is still on Sync 3.0.23219?
The USB port is working but when you try to reformat to Sync 3.4 with maps nothing happens, the unit just does nothing with the USB inserted, other than recognizing the USB drive.

I generated the update in the Syn3 Updater, this is a working install.
Here are the autoinstall and reformat files, along with the log file for reference.

reformat.lst (655 Bytes)
autoinstall.lst (338 Bytes)
log.txt (12.8 KB)

Prepare the USB stick with these files and double check your naming and file extensions.

I’m curious what are the other 16 files in the SyncMyRide folder?

All of the files you are using for the upgrade should be in the SyncMyRide folder except for the autoinstall and reformat files. If they are not the procedure will stop as you have seen.

All the files have always been as instructed in the right folders. I am curious what those 16 files are.

The Sync app, voice, Gracenote, and map files.

So if I understand correctly you want me to download the three files in this chat and replace them with the 2 I have in the root of my usb while leaving all the other 16 from the original download in that same SyncMyRode folder?

I busted my tire this afternoon so my car is in the shop till tomorrow. I’m used to driving af150 and this new cmax I have does not take to the curb the same

LST_ERR05 is the code I get now when I plug the usb drive in. I guess that’s progress, but what does that mean?
