So, I apparently managed to brick my Sync 3 while updating to 3.4. It’s a 2016 Mondeo/Fusion I just bought, and I didn’t give it much thought that it might already have a newer Sync unit. After it showed “installing new software” the screen went black, and now a hard reset only causes the USB ports to blink briefly. I guess it’s gone.
I’ve now bought a unit from a Kuga 2 that already has Sync 3.4 with Navigation (my previous unit didn’t). But how will it work in my Mondeo? Do I need to change anything? I also bought a GPS antenna to connect to the new Sync 3 unit.
I’m new to Ford and to all this, so bear with me
SYNC Region: EU
Navigation Variant: Non Nav
Manufacturer Year: Unknown
Install Type: OEM Replacement
Old SYNC Version: 3.0.19205
New SYNC Version: 3.4.23188
Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
bricked
Hello warlock, thank you for responding, it is a non Sony, I found a win with same equipment, and navigation, it is an automatic, and min isn’t, is that ok?
Find the model number of the Sync unt (APIM). It is likely an original, but old unit like a G-series. If it was replaced by Ford it might be a J-series but with MY20 firmware or EMMC. If that is the case then it’s bricked by using the Syn3 Updater with the reformat tools. Obviously you did not run the Interrogator Utility as this would have told you if this was the case. The opinion now is to buy a new APIM if this one was replaced and is a MY20.
i will know when i remove it, to install the “new” unit i bought. I can only blame my self, i didnt do the check against the interrogator utility, as the car was a MY2017, so it didnt cross my mind. Now the plan is to follow your reccomendations for using the already 3.4 updated unit from the Kuga 2 i have purchased.
