Can an update via Syn3Updater be done in parts, or does it go wrong then

This is a question before I update with Syn3Updater. I recently bought a used Ford Fïesta, from early 2018. Sync I updated from version 2.3 to 3.0.23219 via a download from the Ford site, during a drive at once. I then updated the maps, also using the zip file from the Ford site, from version F6.1 to version F13.
For the maps update, I left the USB stick in the socket for several days, after three short drives it was complete. So this upgrade went in parts. After closing the car, the update apparently just continued on the next drive.

Now I want to update to version 3.4.23088 of Sync via Syn3Updater. My question: can this also be done in parts? Or does this have to be done in one go?
I want to do it during a longer drive but I want to avoid anything going wrong if the engine accidentally turns off and the Sync system shuts itself down, so it would be nice if this doesn’t matter.
Or can I avoid shutting down the unit by disabling the auto start-stop and engine auto-off functions?

You are lucky the APIM is not bricked. Don’t do that. The installations are designed to be installed at once. You risk fragmenting the files and would need to recover the APIM.

done in one go…

Shoud take about 45 minutes to an hour. This is a different kind of installation using the reformat tool. If you interupt the installation you may not be able to recover, depending on the condition of the APIM.

However, it is perfectly safe if you follow the instructions.

Oh wow, do you mean there is also a risk of bricking the unit when you update in parts with the official Ford files only, so not with Syn3Updater?

OK, clear, thanks. Will follow the instructions.

Just curious, when is a APIM not in good condition? After too many rewrites?

There is a chance with either, but Ford seems to be on a roll with killing Sync 3 APIM’s with the 3.0.23219 update.

Not an issue…

Good to know, I will be carefull.
I don’t think I’m going to update to version 3.4x for now. According to the check, I don’t have MY2020+, but I understand you can’t really be sure until you remove the unit from the vehicle. I can have the garage do that sometime during a service, and for them to take a picture of the rear.

One more thing I’d like to know: if I’m going to update in the future, can I prevent the unit from turning itself off during the update by turning off the auto start-stop and auto shut-off function of the engine?

You can run the Interrogator Utility in the Syn3 Updater and it will tell us exactly what APIM is installed and what is on it…

I thought the manual check might not be accurate, you have to check the back of the unit to know for sure? I saw a warning sign saying this.

In any case, here’s my Interrogator log:

H1BT-14G371-FGA is a 64GB NAV APIM which is not MY20+. It can be reformatted.

Super, but is there any chance the unit is not MY20+ after all? Isn’t it safer to take it out and look at the back first? Don’t want to brick it…

You could but it will likely identify as H1BT-14G371-FGA on the APIM sticker on the back of the APIM.

Ok, well then I’ll take my chances after our holiday trip. I’ll let you know if it worked out.
