Factory nav on non nav apim nav worked updated nav dosent work

I have a 2018 Ford Taurus Limited with Sync 3 8 inch. My clock would reset to 12:00 everytime i started my car then my bluetooth would reset. Tried doing update through wifi never worked downloaded from Ford said incompatable with my vehicle. Downladed the updater read everything followed installed update then navigation didnt work. Ive had the car 4 years always had factory nav but when i called Sync today they say my car wasnt manufactured with factory nav. I want my nav back becasue it affects my clock also. I dont know what information you need i have the old version it ran and the new one. I can get the interrogator if needed. I dont know if i need Forscan to change it after update apperently my car isnt supposed to be past Build 3.0 23219. I dont know if previous owner changhed apim or anything the vin number matches the apim it tells me from interrogator matches the one on the sticker(yes i pulled the radio to check).

You can’t revert to 3.0.

There are known issues with .23188 on non NAV older APIMs, use the updater to drop you down to 3.4.21265, this doesn’t require a reformat.

Even though according to sync my apim isn’t factory nav and ive had navigation that worked until now. Will that bring my navigation back also cuz tbh I dont like the layout of the 2388 anyway.

As stated in the documentation, once you go to 3.4 from 3.0 you can’t go back without replacing the APIM with a 3.0 APIM.

The closest you can get to the 3.0 look and feel without replacing the APIM is to use the updater to downgrade you to 3.3.19052

That’s fine according to sync my radio shouldn’t go past 3.0.23219 anyway but before I updated it was running 3.3.19062 and worked. According to sync i dont have factory nav but somehow it was working before I updated it didnt know it was a non nav apim before so I used a map update as well. I can deal with the 3.4 look I just need to find out how to fix my gps and clock. I can attach images of my information before and after I updated.

This is the definition of an oxymoron. Ford is telling you the vehicle is no-nav, but you still call it “factory nav”. Consider this a retrofit.

Do that.

Then why are you still calling it factory nav if you are not the first owner of the car? Plus Ford is telling you it’s no-nav from the factory. So please, stop calling it “factory nav”.

VIN information does not come from the APIM, so it’s irrelevant.

Share the interrogator log and the picture of the sticker.

If it’s not a hardware issue, most likely yes.

Ok i will have to take it apart again to get the sticker off the apim. Yes the clock was doing that before updating that’s the reason I did the update. I will have to get the interrogater this weekend. The reason I say factory nav is because its not google maps or any aftermarket app. Compass on dash navigation on radio display ive used it. Turn by turn running through head unit. Im guessing previous ownerdid somethingto make the nav work before i got it but it runs just like factory navigation would. the Ive attached what was installed before updating which ford says it shouldn’t have. Thank you for the breakdown in response sorry its a clump here and im only trying to answer the questions you ask and touch on the points im in now way trying to argue or be offensive.

There is a physical difference between Nav and Non-Nav APIM’s. You can turn on the GUI Nav button but the non-nav APIM’s have much less space compared to a Nav version.

You may wanna start using the term “native” or “built-in” navigation…
Factory/OEM NAV is NAV from the factory, literally.

It’s called a retrofit, it’s not exactly rocket science, there are several kits online and people that do that.

So provide the log and we will take it from there, but it seems maybe some configuration was reverted while upgrading since the vehicle is not stock. It’s either that, or faulty hardware (specially since you had issues before upgrading).

You used the Autoinstall vs Reformat process to install Sync 3.4 and NA 2.20 maps. The issue here is that you have no valid map license to enable the nav usage on your vehicle, nor will you ever be able to get that from Ford.

You do have a NAV APIM, no issue there. However, you need to determine if the APIM is MY20+ or not. Previous to installing the updates you should have run the Interrogator Utility to determine if your APIM is NAV or not, and if it is MY20+ or not. This is your next step, period. Based on the info in the XML you will have options to proceed to fix it.

Also, the clock and nav functions are completely independent of each other. The issue is the GPS system.

Should’ve but didnt know having working nav was possible on a non nav unit lol. Everything i read here says its not a my20+. As far as the map license how woukd i go about fixing that since it did work prior to the update.
