Hello,
My friend and I are having an issue upgrading his 2017 Focus 4" Sync 1 to Sync 3. I found a wrecked I believe 2018 (but could have been 2017 or 2019) Focus Titanium. I pulled the APIM and ACM box and Sony bezel. I have pulled these Sync 3 APIMs before and upgraded my Navigator and use my Navigator to program them with Forscan. I hooked up the donor vehicle Sync 3 APIM to my Navigator to program it for Focus but the donor car Focus was bad. I had another Sync 3 APIM (probably from a Ford Escape if I were to guess, but I’m unsure) and used Motorcraft service with a random 2018 Focus Titanium VIN to get the APIM values and programmed it with my Navigator. I also used Cyanlabs software and updated it to the latest 3.4 with maps. Tested fine on my Navigator.
I gave him all the stuff (APIM + ACM box + Sony Bezel + USB hub) He bought a Sync 1 to Sync 3 harness on ebay that said it was for the 2015-2018 Focus. He installed it and had no volume control. He decided to use his old ACM box and the volume came back and he could control the volume level, but nothing displayed on the screen. That’s ok, we can work with that. He came back over and I did a master reset through Sync 3 settings menu and I think I tried another random 2018 VIN APIM values from a Titanium focus I found online. Now for whatever reason, we have no volume control (it’s defaulted kind of loud) no matter which ACM box we use. If you go into sound settings, the Bass, Treble and Mid adjustments are all the way maxed out, same thing with the fader. If you drag the slider to the left, it stays there for a split second then resets to maxed out
After doing some searching around, others have complained about no volume after upgrading from Sync 1 to Sync 3. Ah ha! It was the ACM. The ACM needs to be programmed with forscan as well. I didn’t know that. So I use motorcraft service to bring up the values with a random Sync 3 2018 Focus. I go into ACM As build and it brings up 727-01-01 field all the way down to 727-07-04 (15 total fields). However, motorcraftservice values for the ACM, I have 727-01-01 down to 727-04-01 (5 fields) and then it goes to 731-01-01. There are 10 fields that I don’t know the value of (727-05-01 down to 727-07-04).
Now, no matter which ACM box we use (the original one or the donor Sync 3 focus), we have no volume control. We also lost the rear view camera after the second try (he did origially have it when he first installed). I have spent a fair amount of time looking through Forscan with the APIM as build config as well as regular interface config (like changing the volume type to rotary which it already was).
We do have code U0238. The steering wheel button for assistant does respond and bring up Siri when carplay is connected. The volume controls still don’t work (just displays 0).
I’m lost here. I am thinking that maybe his generic ebay harness for $88 isn’t connecting something? Naviupgrade wants like $200+ for his harness but he doesn’t mind paying if that’s the issue. I also found a thread that mentioned that ACMs from 2018/2019 might be incompatible as they started to change it (we are putting this into a 2017 Focus and I think the donor ACM was from a 2018 or 2019). Or I need ACM values 727-05-01 through 727-07-04?
Thoughts? Can provide any other info. I took pictures of values and stuff. Can probably get logs but I would have to call this friend over and he works a lot. Appreciate the help. Have donated for the service before and will gladly donate again.
