Ford Focus Mk3.5 Sync1 -> Sync3 upgrade no phone audio

Hi there, sorry if this issue has been discussed previously, I couldn’t find any much details on it. I recently upgraded from Sync1 to Sync3 with a system I pulled from a scrap car a while ago, I got the APIM, ACM, screen, facia, USB from this one car (2016 Focus ST). I drive a 2017 Focus Mk3.5, and when I installed everything, all the features work great except for this one problem. I can’t hear any audio when I’m on handsfree phone calls, but the person on the other end can hear me. I am sure that the audio is trying to be routed to somewhere that doesn’t exist (I would assume an amplifier) but I need it to route directly to the speakers via the ACM. I think something needs to be changed in the APIM with ForScan but I am very new to the software and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to route the audio to the right place? All other audio works perfectly fine. Thanks!

You may be aware of this but you need to increase the sync volume while the caller or called person is actually speaking to you. It will then stay set at this volume.

It works differently to the radio or USB music volume.

Apologies if you have already tried this.

You could also try a master reset of sync.

Yeah I’ve adjusted volume during phone calls, even full volume I still get no sound. I’ve done multiple factory resets after playing around with forscan a little as well but unfortunately to no avail. Appreciate the help

What are the part numbers of the ACM and APIM?

ACM PN is 51BT-18C815-HM
APIM Assembly PN is JS7T-14G371-ADC

I got APIM and ACM out of a crash damaged 2018 Focus (not 2016 like I thought before), I have my original ACM from my sync 1 system and I’m running that now because the newer one was giving me a U2101 DTC, put the old one back in and cleared codes now there’s no DTC on it, only DTC on the APIM is for the missing GPS antenna I haven’t got around to ordering yet.

Old ACM that I have connected now has PN 51BT-18C815-HK (90% sure that’s it, I don’t want to pull it out again)

This is a 2018 part number so no way I would think 2016.

Maybe F1BT? This would be from a Transit or Focus.

Yeah in my original post I said 2016 by mistake, was thinking of a different car I got part from, Sync 3 APIM & ACM are from a 2018 model

It could very well be F1BT, I will double check in the morning and reply again, give me a couple hours for sleep

OK, post the asbuilt for the ACM you are using. Most likely you need to adjust the APIM Gen to Gen 2 on the first line.

This is my current APIM AB data as I got it from the donor car. ACM data all I can see on Forscan is 727-01-01 but there’s only 0030 after, which I think maybe isn’t right?

ACM. Audio Control Module.

Connect with FORScan to the vehicle and make a new profile. Do not choose a previous profile, see if it populates the asbuilt.

My bad man, edited my previous message, ACM only has one line in Forscan

Finland? One of my favorite bands is from Finland…

I tried that with both ACM’s that I have, still only shows the one line. My cousin has a 2018 focus ST (has sync 3 stock), I connected to his today to check his APIM/ACM programming on Forscan and his ACM had the same 1 line with 0030.

Is this the original ACM with Sync 1? That would explain the data…
Does his audio work properly?
You should grab his APIM asbuilt and load it…

For my original sync 1 ACM and the new one from 2018 focus I got with APIM, both show the same data in Forscan, even after deleting all previous profiles and reconnecting with a new profile.
He has some trouble with android auto that he was told is apparently a known issue (he was quoted €2,000 for repair somehow??) but his Bluetooth calls work fine. For mine, both Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay have the same issue from my original post.
I loaded his APIM data as well, unfortunately no luck

Replying again in the hope that someone else might see this and have some ideas? Thanks
