interesting, the only thing that changed was Dual to signle HVAC. Most if not all PIU’s only have Single.
Do those APIM’s have NAV? Specificly the J series one?

Yeah, I’m not sure. Might be related to the HVAC issue as a whole. With * set to 4 it came back once, but then when I restarted the car it went away again.
I don’t think this one has NAV, but I’m not sure. It didn’t show up when I first plugged it in, so I would guess not.
Might need a Master Reset.
If you flip over the APIM there is another sticker that will tell you how much memory it has. 32GB is a NA Nav model.
Setting 7D0-01-01: xxxx-xxx*-xxxx to 4 followed by a master reset did not bring the icon back. Setting it back to 0 did bring the icon back.
I don’t see any stickers regarding how much storage is available, but I don’t particularly care if the OEM navigation works since I use Android Auto. I can just leave it disabled. The J series one is currently installed, but if it’s necessary to know I can take the assembly apart and check on the underside. It came from a 2019 Ford Escape VIN 1FMCU0HD2KUB99293.
A Blue SEL? Yea no Nav in the SEL that year. They did not add it till the Titanium trim.
Change this to a “2” in your HVAC module. It is still set for the 4” Sync 1 system.
733-01-01: xx*x-xxxx-xxxx
No change. Is there any chance this could be caused by a hardware failure somewhere, possibly the cabin air temperature sensor? Or could it be from the fact that this face plate with the HVAC controls is from a 2016?
Maybe but you wouls see a DTC for that.
2016 was a CGEA 1.3 so it should be fine. Calibration could be an issue with one that old since they were designed for Sync 2 but that really should not matter.
What do you mean by calibration, how would I fix that? Would it be worth sourcing one from a 2017-19 and seeing if that fixes the problem?
16-19 should all be the same. Calibration is like Firmware. I would have to look in Oasis to see if they changed them but I doubt they did.
Is there any AB for the FCIM?
Let me run through the BCM config and see if there is anything in that. It really should just be the HVAC and APIM that have anything to do with this.
I would not rule out the FCIM though.
Just to clarify, FCIM refers to the panel with the HVAC controls and such?
correct. The usual default if there is a compatability issue with the FCIM is to have full heat with full fan. You dont have that so thats why I was mixed on the FCIM.
I dont see anything in the BCM that would effect the HVAC. I know a guy who had a PIU working like yours but he sold it so we cant get his config. I’ll text him and see if he remembers.
update: He said he had to replace the HVAC module with a civilian model one.
What does he mean by the HVAC module? Is that the black box held in by one screw located under the radio box behind the FCIM panel?
Also, this is probably unrelated, but any idea why phone calls don’t work? Calling anyone causes the audio to fallback to AM radio. Bluetooth audio for music and wired Android Auto both work fine. I do run a custom ROM so that might be related.
Yes, that is the one. Should have 2 plugs in it. He said you need one from an XLT or above if he could remember right. Try to get a 2019 if you can.
I’ll try, not sure if there are any in my local yards.
They are not to bad on Ebay. He could not remember the part numbers.
I’ll take a look, that will be my next step.
With Forscan, go to the “main module + hidden and engineering mode” configuration and look for the “TouchScreen” option. Select Sync 3 or “8-inch screen” there. This tells the BCM that your Sync 1 is now Sync 3. For other models, this usually has to be done through the ACM via AsBuilt, but for models like mine, the BCM controls this setting.
Check your FCIM asbuilt for the following:
7A7-01-01 xxXX xxxx xxxx
In your OEM FCDIM asbuilt, it has ‘00’ entered there.
00=No Remote Display, APIM Not Present, ACCT Fixed, ATWU Not Supported, RAF Not Supported. PWMVBCBT VBC
Change the value to ‘60’
60=Touchscreen Display, APIM Present, ACCT Fixed, ATWU Not Supported, RAF Not Supported. PWMVBCBT VBC
The FCIM or HVAC module both contain the HVAC control asbuilt info, depending on which is used in the vehicle.
