Help understand the logic behind why Some APIMs Work and other Dont

I have a bench test. I purchased a sync 3 Apim from a Ford eco Sport UK. It is a 2023 Sync 3 Apim with nav. On the bench test it powered up fine and i fully updated it 3.4 using jailbreak update, as it is a MY20 Apim. i then loaded up a new asbuilt profile so it would work in my ford focus 2015. This originaly was a sync 2 system which i was up[grading to sync 3.
The 2023 sync 3 Apim did not power up at all when i installed it. When i took it out and put it on my bench test it worked fine. So there must be something in the apim telling it not to boot up when plugged into an older car?
I then purchased a 2018 sync 3 apim. i updated this to 3.4 and f13 maps too and loaded the same asbuilt ford focus sync 3 profile onto it.
when i installed this into my ford focus st uk 2015 it worked straight away no issues.

so my question is:
who knows what is happening here and why the newer apim would not work, but an older apim would.
and what can i do to make the new apim work in my car.

thankyou

Hello.

It’s a good idea to share the actual APIM models and their calibrations.

I’m not going to be able to help, but that information will be useful for others.

Nor will it unless you actually downgrade the firmware to pre-MY20 files, which would likely not work properly if they will even load. There is no benefit to using a 2023 APIM in a 2015 C1CMA vehicle. If the vehicle was CGEA, it might work.

The 2018 APIM if early production would be Pre-18.5 MY. This would work without issues. MY18.5 will work also, but in some cases might need an asbuilt adjustment for legacy C1CMA platforms.
