I updated from 3.0 to the latest version of 3.4 all went great. Reached green screen and it asked me to put in the usb to continue the update I did so. That gave me an err04 message which reading on here is blocked package I reset the master after this. I was having some glitches so decided to downgrade to an earlier version (the last one with auto lights, sorry in car with no laptop)

This downgrade went fine. Reached green screen etc. It the told me on the main Ford screen to reinsert usb to continue setup. I did this said updates were installing then flashed up a second message saying done. Didn’t catch rest as it black screened. Then we went to a sync 3.0 style display and the installs started again. What did I do wrong. As I got 20m thought I’d ask as don’t want to mess it up lol.

What exactly are you trying to do? Are you currently in the reformat tool? If you just want to install the last version with auto-brightness then once you reach the green screen and remove the USB you are done.

Do not re-insert the USB again as it will downgrade to 3.3 and reformat once again.

Ok cool guess learn from mistakes there. After the green screen it did the reboot and a pop up asked for the memory stick to be reinserted to continue else features will be disabled. Do I just ignore that?

Depending on what you are doing, it tells you exactly when to remove the USB or keep it in

You didn’t provide any log or information, so maybe the installation is starting again because you are not removing the USB when you should.

And you should only remove it once…

If you left the USB inserted after the green screen and reboot, that means that SYNC tried to start installing 3.3 again to downgrade. If you remove the USB at the green screen and do not re-insert it, SYNC will not ask for you to re-insert it.

Basically just leave the USB disconnected after the green screen and make sure its removed before it reboots.

That’s what I’d done. Removed at green. It did it’s thing as expected. Rebooted. Usb stick stayed out.

Then on the initial boot it asked me to reinsert to finish (next run I’ll take a pic and show you, only about 10m left). Curious as to why it’s asking.

After the reboot, make sure to perform a master reset. It shouldn’t be asking for you to insert a USB after a reformat.

Well a master reset basically forces SYNC to relearn all vehicle details and parameters from the as-built so it might have cleared out whatever flag was set for the USB install message. At least its gone now.

I am running the latest build (3.4.20351) as I find it to be the fastest and most stable. I also like the audio screen redesign that’s present in 3.4.20196 and higher. If you need the auto-brightness toggle then you can’t really update to a later version which is unfortunate. There is no workaround as of right now.

Based on your log you uploaded, it makes sense why it keeps reformatting. The 3.4 build you are on has not yet blacklisted the reformat package so it loops back into the reformat tool if you plug in the USB again. Newer 3.4 builds have the reformat package blacklisted which is why a downgrade is first required.

i also noticed with this build my climate option shows but not on latest. i found 20351 to keep freezing on mine. perhaps ill try the 20196 build let the latest bed in etc.

that does make sense as to why it didnt like it in there the first time and reformatted now. thanks. I presume if i update to 20196+ and leave the maps (already latest now) it shouldnt matter as much.

No worries. As for your climate menu, this was a change that Ford intentionally made. They enabled the climate menu for vehicles that were not supposed to have it so technically it not showing is what is intended to happen. Of course, you can always re-enable the climate menu with FORScan.

Ahh, was nice to have it back, but not to bothered the sides are flipped for me anyway so better its not there imo. just to check when i update with no maps its just autoinstall this time?
