Map version to select for updating 3.0 to 3.4

I am trying to understand how to do this update. The most recent video I’ve seen is on YouTube from 4 months ago. The video said to select the newest map version which, in his case, was 2.23 (2023)-NA. The most current version I see listed is a 2024 version. There are other versions with green letters saying ESN unlocked but the most current listed shows ESN locked in red letters. I don’t understand which one to select and couldn’t understand the discussions I read that mentioned this. Wich version should I be selecting for a 2017 F150 and a 2018 explorer both running the 3.0.23219?

Select the newest, to go from 3.0 to 3.4 a reformat is required, so ESN lock maps are irrelevant (you can only install ESN locked maps with reformat).

You can update with Cyanlabs (not Ford) to 3.4.23188 from 3.0.23219 with the latest 2.24 maps for your 2 vehicles as @SaNdMaN suggests provided the sync3 is not MY20 as you indicate.

The ESN (equipment serial number) locked applies to MY20 Fords and cannot be uploaded to the car through the Ford updater without payment to Ford for the map files.

There is a good chance that the sync system will be bricked if an attempt is made to upload the latest ESN locked maps to a MY20 model through Cyanlabs.

Just follow @SaNdMaN’s directions…I was only giiving an explanation of what ESN indicates and it’s purpose.

Thank you both for the replies. Will Ford pass still work and should I allow automatic updates once I get it loaded? The download finally completed and this is what the log says.

All looks good…you should be able to upload the files to your 2 vehicles. It may take some time due to the map files so ensure that you have the engine running and turn off the 30 minute idle shutdown in the dash menu if you have it.
Also ensure that you do a master reset after each upload.

Automatic wifi is for future Ford updates but I suggest you turn it off as once you download with Cyanlabs and upload by USB to the cars you will have now left the Ford ‘fold’ and any future software messages they try and send you will only confuse the system. Also you will no longer be able to advise Ford of updates completed.

I don’t know much about Fordpass. If you need wifi turned on in the car for it that should be fine as long as auto updates is disabled.

I went ahead and did the update on the F150. It loaded fine just as it should. It did disconnect from the ford pass app during the install. I did the master reset and it finally connected to ford pass after going through some of the ford pass trouble shooting steps. All looks good. Thank you for the help and I hope this post helps someone else who has the same questions and concerns.

I also used it to update my 2018 Explorer this morning. Everything went as planned and Ford pass is working as it should. Ford pass will disconnect during the master reset but it can be reconnected easily with no issues. Thank you for all the help.

The disconnection of Fordpass is normal after a master reset along with the phone and saved Satnav destinations and favorites, media settings, saved emergency contacts etc.

You just have to reinstall them.
