Modifications needed to receive DAB stations with Sync 3.4 currently using FM on a 2017 Kuga

Hello everyone

I own a 2017 Ford Kuga ST Line 150hp all-wheel drive (European version).

DAB radio has just been launched in my area, and I’d like to receive it on my Sync 3 system.

I currently have version 3.4.26057 installed (thank you for making this possible), and I’ve changed the APIM 7D0-01-01: xxxx-xxx*-xxxx from “2” to “A” and the ACM 727-01-01: x*xx-xxxx-xxxx from “9” to “D” using a 1-year Forscan license.

Although I now have the DAB display on Sync, it’s not finding any stations.

I receive FM perfectly well; perhaps I need an antenna amplifier or a frequency divider? The antenna is original and located in the rear bay, I believe!

What do you think? I haven’t taken anything apart yet; I’d prefer to have any necessary parts on hand so the vehicle isn’t out of commission for too long.

Attached are some photos to illustrate the problem.

Thanks in advance.

What model or part number is the ACM?

Hello

Thank you for your quick reply. Here is an image of the ACM.

Have a good day.

How about DAB antenna? This is not only ACM and APIM, antenna also needed. Most common place of antenna module is upper of rear window (need to remove inner panel).

That is a pretty old ACM that possibly not compatible with the newer DAB and SDARS formats. Not saying that is the issue but technology has moved on significantly since that was produced.

The antenna suggestion is a good path to follow at this point… thanks Luarvik.

My 2016 S-max (got it on feb 2016) has DAB. It became with SYNC 2 and ACM part is EM2T-19C107-GJ. Also it has DS7T-18C847-CA (AM/FM/DAB antenna part/module) and DS7T-18C847-AA (FM part/module). Location of those is upper rear window. When i activated DAB on 2017 Focus it has pure silence and did not found any DAB package as well. So smth is missing :). Did not checked antenna stuff on those days.

Hello and thank you for the suggestions.

Indeed, the antenna is on the rear window above the defroster.

The modules are present, but neither of them has the DAB marking, as shown in the attached photo.

In your opinion, do you think that replacing the module(s) with DAB-compatible ones would make the current antenna functional, or is there a way to test it?

If so, what module part numbers should I look for?

Thank you both again for your interest in my problem.

As DAB uses 174 to 240 MHz frequencys u need proper part with DAB sign. But maybe u need some extra wirering too, dunno know. Just ask some Ford specialist about tht, or find a similar car with working DAB to checki it out.

Hello

I will look for the two module part numbers you mentioned at the few auto salvage yards that are now available in my area, if they will allow me to test them.

I don’t know any Ford owners, so I will try to see what solutions a dealership offers and if the cost is reasonable.

Thank you so much, Luarvik and Chef F150, for your valuable information.
