No gps after apim swap

Good morning guy/girls, i have a 2016 explorer PIU which ive done the sync 3 swap into, however the original K series apim i had to take out and use in a newer ford as a nav/x40 xm project, in the mean time i swapped a J series into the explorer which had nav and everything but the xm worked great nav included, i went and bought a EU apim K series with nav and installed it, updated the calibration and the sync to 23188 with the newest us maps, everything works as it should including the x40 but now my gps is saying no signal and is stuck in dearborn, Michigan. I will upload an interrorgator file shortly, but any ideas on what could cause this issue? It came with 22200 and F12 maps
Thank you in advance

As a few of us have found out the hard way you cannot use an EU NAV APIM with US maps, you’ll be stuck in Dearborn forever.
There’s definitely something different at the OS level (which is Blackberry QNX Auto) between the NA & EU versions (when you flash firmware you have to do all the files at once on EU vs being able to do one at a time on NA APIM).
Personally I noticed that if I did a GPS test with NAV enabled in the config it showed no GPS signal, but as soon as I disabled NAV I had signal.
Personal guess here is that its a form of copy protection since we have to pay for maps in the US while quite a few areas in the EU tehy’re free by law.

Wonder if Fmods has anything that can help.

Nothing as of December,
If you look here and over on 2G, Mike has been looking for a solution foe a couple of years.
I’ve still got the one I started playing with last year.

Did you guys try the US K series Calibrations just for giggles?

Yep,
His was an EU K series if I remember right, mine is an EU N.

Calibration to US was one of the first things we tried as well as dropping down to 3.2, 3.4.21194, 3.4.21265 as well as using NA2.20 maps since those weren’t ESN locked.

So basically im up a river with a awesome apim? Welp back to the drawing board with a K series lol

I have never seen an EU APIM work with US maps.

The one I have came from a US Fusion that belonged to a guy that was stationed at Rhein Main who replaced the APIM there with a EU one and then brought the car back to the US with him.
I’d love to know where the actual difference is in the unit that kills the GPS when non-EU maps are loaded.
