No RVC, 360 Camera, or heated/cooled seats after upgrade from sync 2 to 3

It could. Did you change anything in the Sync 2 to 3 upgrade? You could try reloading the IPMB asbuilt…
7B1_IPMB - Image Processing Module B.abt (192 Bytes)
This is mine, but I also have the 2015 F-150 Platinum model.

I tried reloading the asbuilt earlier and it gave me an error, though I was trying to use my iPhone hotspot. I’ll give it another try, hopefully I won’t have to break open the dash again. Thanks!

Were you able to get this to work? I’m having a very similar issue with my 2 >3 upgrade although I only have the RVC and not the 360. I get all the indicators on my screen that it’s working but it’s like a black paper is over the camera. 2015 Lariat - would mine connect through the IPMB too with no 360 camera?

No IPMB. Yours will connect directly to the APIM.

Two things to do:

  1. Perform the Local Network New Module Calibration.
  2. Make sure the RVC is correct in the asbuilt.

If this does not work, if you have FORScan, post your APIM asbuilt.

No, I’m having the local sound shop take a look at the truck tomorrow. I’ll keep you guys posted what they say.

F150chief: Thanks for the response. I can’t get the LIN Calibration to go past 8%, it just gives me a notification to cycle the ignition and fails. Same with Rear Camera Calibration.

Since you have a 2015 F-150 Lariat, this is a Sync 3 retrofit from Sync 2. There are a few errors in this asbuilt that could affect the issues you are having. I’ll go thru it tomorrow and send you the needed corrections.

Do you happen to know the APIM part number for the Sync 3 unit you installed? It is obviously a J*** or K*** series, unless it’s an older one with the newer firmware.

Here’s what I pulled from ForScan this morning.

APIM - Accessory Protocol Interface Module
Bus: HSCAN
Part number: JS7T-14G371-JED
Calibration level: JS7T-14G371-JED (latest known: JS7T-14G371-JJA)
Strategy : HB5T-14G374-CA
Calibration: HB5T-14G375-BA
VIN: 1FTEW1EG0FFB45111

Also, here is the original Sync 2 as-built (if that helps at all). RVC was working on this.

Block 2

Thanks, I’ll take a look later today…

@McF150,

Here is a revised asbuilt:
1FTEW1EG0FFB45111_APIM_NEW.abt (403 Bytes)
Support documentation:
1FTEW1EG0FFB45111 Sync 3 APIM As Built Database.xlsx (87.5 KB)
1FTEW1EG0FFB45111.txt (1.3 KB)

Two settings that are incorrect for your vehicle could be causing issues:

  1. B-Car Vehicle Setting are enabled.
  2. Parking Distance Control/Parking Assistance is set to Front and Rear instead of just Rear. Pre 2021 F-150’s don’t have front sensors. This will mess up the rear parking assist function.

Your firmware versions are correct for the unit, the asbuilt looks good other than the 2 errors above. I added the proper BT profile and naming in the asbuilt for the vehicle, but these would not be causing any issues.

Load the asbuilt, perform a Master Reset. Shut down the vehicle for 5 minutes. Restart the vehicle, engine running, and see if the camera works. Also, erase the vehicle from your phones and re-pair your phones. You will find your vehicle as F-150 now rather than Sync.

Thank you so much! I will try this tonight. One question - is “master reset” meaning do a module reset of the APIM in Forscan or something else?

Master Reset thru the Sync 3 APIM menu.

Performing a master reset

  1. Start your vehicle. Ensure your vehicle is in park and running, not in accessory mode.
  2. Press Settings on your vehicle’s SYNC screen.
  3. Choose General.
  4. Scroll down and press Master Reset. …
  5. Press Continue.
  6. Wait for the APIM to fully reboot and the maps to come up. Once they do the unit is fully rebooted.

The reset in FORScan is not a Master Reset, just a ‘soft’ reset of the system as it is. A Master Reset will set all customer options to factory default, and unpair phones, etc.

I tried this but it still didn’t work. I get the same black screen with the plus button, truck in the upper right for parking sensors and text on the bottom saying “Please check surroundings for safety”.

Tried LIN calibration and camera calibration and they both keep stopping at 8%. Any idea why that would be happening?

The camera is actually bad. Or there is a connection issue.

Have you removed the tailgate? There is a connector under the bed in the back that gets water and corrosion in it that you might want to check.

Did you make the APIM corrections?

Made the APIM corrections and did the master reset. I’ve never taken the tailgate off, but I did disconnect and reconnect the connector yesterday thinking maybe that had something to do with it. I hope it’s not the camera that went bad.

I may try to swap the Sync 2 module back in this weekend to see if it still works under that. I’m not eclectically inclined enough to check wiring/connectors to see if the camera is getting power, etc.

Did you get a resolution to the issue?
If not, did you run the IPMB Local Interconnect Network New Module Calibration?

I did some research on the rear camera issues and found some info that may help. In the BCM, the setting at 726-39-02 xxxx x*xx xxxx is for the rear camera ‘slave’ operation. You now have a Sync 3 APIM which means your camera is not a slave RVC. Your camera is driven by the APIM now. 2011 thru 2015 vehicles with a 4.2" display had an FCDIM instead which is when the slave RVC setting would apply. Also, CGEA 1.2 vehicles use this setting with Sync 2, and some CGEA 1.3 vehicles I have found this setting active, some not. If active, it causes issues with Sync 3 upgrades.

Follow this:

  1. Connect FORScan and go to the BCM (Body Control Module) Asbuilt Configuration.
  2. Save the BCM configuration asbuilt before you make any changes. Always do this immediately when you enter any module as a habit.
  3. Locate 726-39-02.
  4. Looking at your factory asbuilt file, attached here, your setting for this line is:
    726-39-02 0101 0101 006C
    Change the line to:
726-39-02 0101 0001 006B (If the checksum of 6B is incorrect, let FORScan recalculate it.)
  5. Write the change to the BCM.
NOTE: The BCM is going to reset and cause all sorts of mayhem. This is normal, don’t worry about it.
  6. Once the commotion is finished, save the new BCM configuration, and exit the BCM (Body Control Module) Asbuilt Configuration.
  7. Scan the vehicle for DTC’s, there will be a few most likely. Clear all the DTC’s.
  8. Go to the Tools tab (wrench) in FORScan and run the BCM (BdyCM) Local Interconnect Network New Module procedure. Follow the instructions.
  9. Once this is done, you might need to drive the vehicle a bit for the system to start working, but it might work as soon as you put it in reverse with the vehicle running.

Let me know if this works for you. Here is your factory asbuilt file. Keep in a safe place.

@McF150
Were you able to make any progress on the issue?

Hi. Sorry I meant to say thank you for digging into this more, I really appreciate it as this has me completely stumped. I followed your steps exactly, but still cannot get a LIN procedure to go beyond 8%.

I haven’t had a chance to pull the unit out and see if the camera still works under the Sync 2 setup. Still getting the same black screen but everything else is showing up (plus sign, truck in upper right, text, but no guidelines).

I’m wondering now if it’s the APIM itself or some connection that’s not right on the back end.

What adaptor are you using?

I just reconnected the factory harness that connected to Sync 2 when I put in the Sync 3 module. No adapter.
